Prior to surgery, I had sleep apnea. But that condition was quickly resolved after my RNY gastric bypass surgery 3 years ago and stayed in remission ever since.

While sleep apnea accounts for more than three million cases in the U.S., Insufficient sleep, which is now so widespread that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recently called it a public health problem, plagues between 50- to 70 million Americans. So it sounds like the CDC coined a new phrase. So what do they recommend for this new condition? The National Sleep Foundation recommends adopting healthy sleep hygiene habits in order to improve overall quality of life. Among those: skipping caffeine later in the day, exercising daily, and practicing a consistent bedtime ritual that does not include your smartphone.

Here is a link to the article that discusses insufficient sleep. http://acsh.org/news/2016/11/30/sleep-apnea-or-insufficient-sleep-both-are-costly-dangerous-10506

Yep, keep trying longer. Might try different types. I got the kind for men with mustaches and I am a girl. The others would rub at the top overly much. It greatly improved things . I think if you can do things to train yourself to fall asleep quickly then it may not have time to bug you. There is something called Delta wave sleep music on you tube. It amazes me how well it helps me ..... except any caffeine after 3 pm and I mess my sleep up with anything. I am doing pretty good with changing that now. Make sure your bed is firm enough and don't watch tv near sleeping time and have a dark room you know. All the stuff written about and give it another month also.

I usually wake up around 4 am and take it off. But I was told if you wear it at least 4 hrs a night you will get some benefit.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
