What to do with all of our old clothing??

Recommended Posts

My husband and I are both banded and have piles of beautiful clothing that no longer fit.

What do you all do with your too large clothing???

Thanks!

Rain

I just took 110 pieces of clothes to a large size resale shop in Dallas. They are pretty picky as what they take. However, they have a good selection and found myself wanting tp buy clothes from them while losing. There are many resale shops around. However ones that focus on large sizes will give you a better deal.

I give mine away to my fellow fatties. It gets so expensive buying new clothes and the closer you are to goal the faster you go through sizes. So I recycle mine by giving them away. Hopefully, each person will continue the cycle.

I donate to a charity shop, such as GoodWill or Salvation Army. They sell it and they use the money to do good work.

Most of my clothes I gave to the battred women's shelter. Most of those women have left home with very little....many had little to start with...when you leave in the middle of the night by police escrot yiu can't pack much. These women need nice clothes to improve their self-esteem and to wear when they get out and start looking for a job or enrolling in training courses so they can become self-supporting.

I use Freecycle.org to give away all of my extra stuff. You just sign up for the list for your city and then people post all of their free stuff. The only catch is it has to be free, you can't charge for it or offer to trade and the best part is the person you decide to give the items to will drive to your house to pick it up. You can list any items from cars, pets, a left over bald tire...not just clothes.

I plan on using my panties as shrub covers to protect them over the winter... :)

I donate my clothes to goodwill as well.

The bariatric unit where my banding will be done, St Vincent Hospital in Cleveland Ohio, has a clothing exchange for their patients. Just a room where you can bring clothes that have become too big, and then look around for clothes in a smaller size. All volunteer, all free.

I've continued wearing them and I really ought to cut it out. The pants make me look like I haven't lost much weight. The thing is that many of my old pants are made of linen and I love linen. Maybe if I got some smaller tops I could continue to wear the baggy pants. I guess it's time to go shopping again.......

I went the Freecycle route eventually, but first I tried to give them to a battered-women's shelter. I was also trying to unload PILES of my girls' outgrown clothing, so I figured that would be a great way to do it. But you know what? It was impossible to find one! Even after calling the county for a referral I was told someone would have to call me back--I didn't realize it at first, but it makes sense that they would want to be hard for the public to locate. Duh.

Freecycle sounds wonderful and maybe it would be better out where you live, Rain, but in my county I think the members are reselling things even though they're not supposed to. I was disenchanted when one person repeatedly claimed ALL my outgrown clothes, no matter what size. Now my castoffs go to Goodwill, an organization I have faith in.

Alexandra... Freecycle is a great idea for a lot of things. I understand that there may be people that try to benefit from it financially but the beauty of the freecycle is you decide who to give your things too and you decide if you want to give all of it to one person or several people. If you find that one person is not in need and just seems to be misusing the list then you can decide to give your items to someone else. Plus, the people on Freecycle can find uses for many items that charity places wont take, because they can't resell them. Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with it but it does serve a useful purpose by keeping things out of the landfills and putting them in the hands of other people that can still make use of the items a little longer.

I give all of mine to a local thrift store... I let my sister rummage through first, but we have such different tastes, 99% goes to the thrift store.

They don't make you go through it or anything, so I just drop off loads of black trash bags on their entry table and go.

I donated mine to the Aberdeen clothing bank. The clothing bank is run by the same folks who do the Aberdeen food bank.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
