im curious on the long term of the band. has anyone had it for a long time and were there any problems

andrea

The Lap-Band was FDA approved in 2001, so it is unlikely you will find anyone in the USA that has been banded before that time, unless they were in the FDA trials.

Hi andielmt I'm interested in the same... I keep reading about the long-term statistics of the band being not so good so it would be handy if some of the longer-term bandsters came out of the shadows and let us know whether they've had any issues/complications!

Good to know! I thought YouTube would be a great source of information as far as watching people blog on their weight loss after WLS..but not the case. There seem to be a lot of medical practitioners trying to advertise WLS on YouTube..particularly the Mini Gastric Bypass.. there are a lot of videos on Youtube with people saying that 'lap band surgery is no longer the preferred long term solution' and that complications continue to increase with every year that a patient has the lap band..its very disheartening!! Even though I would still prefer the lap band over a gastric bypass I just want to hear it from people who have physically experienced it because its hard to know what to believe.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
