Tomorrow I start my Pre-surgery weight loss regiment. This means 2 Protein Shakes and a sensible Protein rich meal for dinner. Very little to no carbs. I'm officially quitting Coca cola tomorrow and quitting smoking. I must me nuts. I did get the unflavored Protein powder to maybe have some Soup in there instead of just shakes. I see my surgeon January 13th to see where I'm at and probably schedule the surgery. Removing Coca cola alone will probably help me lose some, but he wants me to lose 25-50 in a month and a half. I think I can do the 25. I also have to have an upper Gi x ray and full blood test... Do I have to drink the nasty stuff for that x ray? Most of the blood test is already done. Otherwise I just need medical clearance. My PCP is fully on board and I see her tomorrow.

I quit soda several years ago and I hate to be a downer but I gained 30 pounds in the 8 weeks after I quit. I spoke to my doctor and he said that it was because the caffeine was keeping my metabolism up. I'm by no means suggesting that you keep your Coke habit but if you don't drop or even increase you might have an idea why.

For me dropping the carbs has been the key. During Thanksgiving and the few days after I had much more carbs and I didn't loose a thing. On Wednesday I went on a lower than usual carb diet (normally less than 35 now at 15) and I've dropped 3 pounds.

Thanks for that warning. I think I'm gonna supplement my caffeine by mixing my morning Protein shake with coffee concentrate so I can still have caffeine. I'm also taking a Multivitamin with B complex to help my energy level.

I use my premiere protien shakes as cream for my coffee. My coffee is Decaf. Have you considered trying the half decaf and half caffeine coffee for awhile?

I had only been having a diet carbonated drink at dinner for about a half of year before I decided to start on this weight loss journey. Carbs are my downfall. I have 2 more classes left then I hope to be approved for surgery.

Half caf makes it easier to step down to all Decaf, which is what some docs want. I was completely off caffeine at the time of my surgery, but got back on it as soon as I could. My blood pressure when from normal pre-op to low post-op, so I need all the help I can get. But going cold turkey to decaf is going to let you in for some headaches and grumpiness.

Ah. OK. My doctor didn't say I had to get off of caffeine. My blood pressure is only slightly high. I think he is expecting it to normalize when I quit carbs. I'm gonna consider half Decaf though. Not a bad idea to begin with.

Caffeine slows down the healing process. My doc wants no caffeine for at least 3 months post-op.

1/2 decaf will help you ease into no caffiene.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
