Lost almost HALF of me? WOW!

Recommended Posts

I am approaching to being exactly HALF of who I once was. Absolutely NUTS!!

Don't ever give up! This odyssey has been a roller coaster of ups and downs. Almost 34 months and still going. There have been set backs, and heart breaks, but I am a better man and person today because of them.

Just watched the segment on 10 news. How is your go Fund me going? Any closer to your skin surgery?

I totally understand how seeing and feeling it can act as a constant reminder of where you were 34 months ago but to put a positive spin on it...it should also remind you of how far you have come with all your incredible determination.

Best tips for me is high protein/low carb, and mix it up. So for me I go higher carbs on the weekend, and then go low carb during the week. So usually during the week I stay 50g of crabs of less. Weekends I up to it 50-75g. I like to do that cause it keeps my body guessing, and doesn't allow it to get into a routine.

Another tip, don't deprive yourself. There are many great protein/healthier alternatives to things these days. I want pizza, I sue FlatOut Protein wraps and make a pizza. I want a cookie, there are plenty of Protein Cookies out there to enjoy. But even when I say don't deprive yourself, I make sure it fits in with my daily allowances. The BIGGEST tip of all, just keep going. Don't ever give up. Ever need any advice message my Facebook page. Be happy to pass along what I can.

That is awesome!

Thank you!!

Thank you!! The news segment was good, although after following up multiple times with that surgeon they failed to call me back and give me a price. Luckily for me, I have consulted with others, and the price of 100K USD is pretty closed for all of them, some more, some less. The Go Fund Me has been very slow going, but I am super grateful to those who've supported me. Every pounds I lose gets me closer to skin surgery. Most of the Dr's I saw said I could start immediately upon getting to 280-290, as they estimate between 65-80 pounds of excess skin, and with its removal would get me in goal weight range of 200-225. Because my starting weight was so high and for so long, I don't have to wait 6 months like some to start, as the surgeons have said my skin will not retract at all or extremely little. So the surgeons have told me when I get to 295 to come in for a follow up, since they're booking 3-5 weeks out. That would allow me to get to 280-290 by the time I go in for plastics, that's hoping I raise enough funds.

I do agree, it is a great reminder of progress from where I was to where I am now. I knew the skin would be a physical issue that I had to deal with. I never gave much thought to the mental/emotional aspect it would cause. It's just hard to do some stuff when you have up to 80 pounds just flopping around, but I still have progress to be made, and I won't let that be the reason it gets sabotaged.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
