Losing Motivation

Recommended Posts

Hello.....

Between my first two visits with the nutritionist, I lost 12 pounds in a month. Yay me. I'd like to lose 50 pounds before surgery, which I am hopeful will be in April.

I log all of my food on the Lose It app.

I planned to go off plan for thanksgiving. But I'm having trouble getting back on plan. I've set myself up in the app to restrict calories per day (to lose 2 pounds a week) but for the last week, have gone over on calories and especially carbs.

I'm disappointed in myself. I'm comparing myself to my friend who had the surgery and laughed it off that she lost 7 pounds before surgery. Why can't I be satisfied with the 12 I've lost and just hold tight? Because I want and need to lose as much as possible.

I'm really just whiney right now and in need of a swift kick in the ass.

I made an "inspiration book" where I put quotes I liked and stories of people who lost weight. Whenever I would get discouraged or need motivation/inspiration, I would look at that book. Keep it positive. Don't try using fat pictures of yourself to motivate you, it will only depress you. Also, don't use an airbrushed unattainable famous person's body as motivation. Find stories of real people who lost massive amounts of weight and be inspired by them. I guess Pinterest would work too.

I'm kinda in the same boat as you. I was super diligent about keeping track of everything I ate and drank for 3 months till I reached my surgery goal weight. Since the week of Thanksgiving I haven't tracked anything. I do weigh myself daily to be sure I am still 2 pounds below surgery goal weight. Wanted a cushion. I don't put anything into my body that I haven't consciously decided to eat. No mindless eating. I know I will lose more weight on pre-op diet. I'm okay with that.

Please don't try to compare your journey with your friends. You have successfully lost 12 #'s. That's great. You have 5 months to lose more weight. Some days/weeks will be better than other's. Just aim for a lot more better eating days. Pat yourself on the back for losing the 12#'s and not gaining them back.

Good luck on your journey. See ya on the losers bench

Clever girl, if you could lose steadily you probably wouldn't need WLS. This past January, After years and years of yo-yo dieting I wasn't able to lose more that a 1/2 pound a week on 1600 calories a day. That was the reason I decided to have WLS. Do what you can but don't beat yourself up.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
