I know the weight won't melt off. I guess I just expected more from myself. Started at 318 pre op lost 17 lbs 301 day of surgery and today 283... just feel like this isn't a nice huge loss like others. I try not to compare but so hard not too. I'm just ready to really start to feel and notices the difference. I notice some things but it's still like I'm the same in most ways.

I just needed a little vent.i am feeling crazy lately.

Imagine if you had gained 35 lbs from the day of surgery until now.

How would you feel? Would you feel like that was a normal or even moderate weight gain in that time period?

For me, I haven't gained 35 lbs in the past 3 years. I would go up 10 lbs and down 10 lbs and basically stay static. If I suddenly piled on 35 lbs I would have been making a doctor's appt STAT.

I would be surprised if most people did not feel that way but the thing is, you have to be realistic. Not sure when your surgery was but when is the last time you lost this much weight this fast?

You are doing fantastic!!! Slow and steady wins the race.

I was a slow loser. It took me 18 months to lose all of my excess weight. I lost 152lbs. The first 100 came off over 9 months, then next 52 seemed like it took forever....another 9 months.

When i think about it now, it was sooooo fast! My brain did not even have enough time to catch up with my body.

Definitely makes sense. I know it seems crazy to think like this but I've made so many changes with myself and diet I can't wait to see the changes in myself !

100 pounds in 9 months is about 11 pounds a month. You have lost 17 pounds in 3 weeks or like 35 pounds in not much more than a month!

Try and be patient.

I was slower than you, and I've lost 218 lbs. Everyone loses at their own rate. Stick to your program and you'll lose the weight - it's pointless to compare yourself to other people.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
