Hi everyone!

I have my endoscopy on Thursday! Woo hoo! My doctor stated to stop taking ibuprofen, aspirin, and plavix five days prior to the procedure. I got hurt at work this week and they prescribed me naproxen, which is also an NSAID. I took a dose today before I realized what was up.

Did anyone have an issue like this leading up to their endoscopy or their procedure at all? I will call the surgeon's office on Monday morning, but I just wanted to get some opinions here, too, if possible.

Thanks!!

Hello! Please be sure check in with your cardiologist too. Plavix or aspirin taken for cardiac reasons shouldn't be stopped without their approval. (I work in cardiology). Wishing you the best, you'll do great!

Make the call on Monday. The last thing you need is opinions. If four out of five people offer the opinion that there's no need to stop taking anything, I'd hope you'd ignore them.

What you got from @@Shibmar doesn't fall into the opinion category. It's accurate info. If you do have cardio-vascular concerns, you've probably gotten clearance for WLS from your cardiologist already or it's in the works, yes? I can't imagine that the bariatric surgeon wouldn't have specified the necessity.

Go forth and be fab.

Thank you both! I got cardio clearance, but I don't have any cardio issues. I'm sorry I wasn't super clear - those were just the examples on the doctor's handout of things to stop taking pre-procedure.

Be very careful with naproxen, these have caused me no end of issues and bleeds since I had a sleeve. Doctor's have now said that I can never take them again, so they have put me on 10mg amitriptyline for osteoarthritis it works a treat. All happily moving forward with my recovery.

Be sure to tell the doctor. But my husband was supposed to stop his Plavix and forgot. He told his medical team, and they said it was not a big deal, just make sure to tell them, as your team might say differently.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
