5 Day Post Op from VSG and I don't have "full feeling"

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I just had my VSG surgery this past Monday November 28th and everything went well. But I'm worried because I don't have that full feeling I've been reading about and find myself hungry. Right now I'm on my mushy stage 2 and I am hungry a lot of the time . I don't have any discomfort in drinking and eating and I'm almost worried the surgery wasn't done right ... Has anybody else experienced this too ? And if so what can I do to stay on track ? Any suggestions would help tremendously

The nerve endings in your stomach have been cut, so it's unlikely you could really experience "fullness" this early out. This is the reason that a liquid and mushy food diet is imperative, because you could not physically feel when your stomach was full to the point of busting a staple of you were eating solids.

I was feeling hunger, sort of. It felt like my stomach needed to rumble but it wouldn't. From what I read, it was probably acid and a combination of food cravings causing that feeling.

I am 5 weeks out and don't ever feel full. I struggle to get all my Water and Protein in each day and don't eat anything really solid. A scrambled egg is the most solid thing I can eat and I can hardly finish one, but I don't feel full so much as I feel like I can't get any more down.

On Monday I will be allowed to eat much more, hopefully I will get that full feeling then but I know I am going to have to start slow. My sleeve is tiny.

The goal is to not feel full. Stop before you get that feeling and this how going slow really helps. 3 times I have taken one bite too many and felt so full and uncomfortable. I had to just walk around for a bit. Eating for the sleeve is very different and it takes practice once on solids.

You're not going to feel full or feel your sleeve's restriction on liquids and mushies. Just measure and/or weigh your foods and drink/eat only the amounts you're supposed to. Are you on a PPI or acid inhibitor of some kind? Acid production feels like hunger, and then there's head hunger, when your brain is screaming "EAT" regardless of what's in your stomach. When I have head hunger, I go for a walk, or clean the house or call a friend, or ANYTHING to get my mind off food. And when you're able to eat dense Protein, you'll have the satiated sensation and will have less hunger most likely.

This is a head game as much as anything, so getting your head to cooperate is key. That's where distraction and positive visualization comes in, and that's easier as time goes by and you start to lose weight. Seeing the rapid results we have is a huge incentive to not eat.

Thank you so much for replying ! You're right it's a head game too but I'm excited to keep going. It's hard figuring all this out and learning what to eat and not to eat. I don't wanna make any mistakes and make the best outta this opportunity.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
