redheadjo 63 Posted December 3, 2016 Day 4. My liquid diet isn't any fun but it's easy. No fussing over what to eat and I've faithfully stuck to the plan. 3.8 pounds lost the first day and I can't lose one stinking more pound and it's driving me nuts! This is the point when diets fail me. I pray I do enough to have surgery next week. I'm so afraid my liver won't shrink enough!! Self hate is bad, I know this. I can't help but feel like I'm failing before I start. Total disappointment to step on the scale and see the same number over and over again. Rachel412 116 Posted December 3, 2016 It's only been four days. Your body is confused. Relax and give it more time- and STRONGLY consider not weighing yourself every day
teaqueen 113 Posted December 3, 2016 Staying off the scale every day after surgery is important too. You'll have stretches where the numbers move, and you'll have stretches where they don't. Funny, your body changes the most during the times when the scale is stalled. So says a girl who is 11 months out and down more than 80 pounds. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Just stick to your plan, my Dr. only has us do 1 day of Clear liquids for a preop diet. He said he wants us to change our habits over the course of a few months before surgery, and I only have to lose 5% of my weight so about 12 or 13 lbs. As long as you're sticking to the plan he gave you, you should be fine. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App
KaylaWls1216 65 Posted December 3, 2016 Why is it so important to stick to the liquid diet beside the norm liver shrink ? Sent from my Z981 using the BariatricPal App
James Marusek 5,244 Posted December 3, 2016 Since you are at the beginning of this process, I would recommend three things. 1. Take a good before photograph of yourself, so that you have something to compare to after surgery. Many times we are blind to our obesity. We do not see ourselves. Therefore when the weight begins to drop off rather dramatically, we question if this is really happening. Photographs are a good visualization of our success. Many people carry a before and after photo with them, just to remind themselves of their success. 2. Walk 30 minutes each day, every day until surgery (or equivalent exercise). Walking helps the recovery process go smoothly and minimized the pain levels from surgery. 3. Wean yourself from caffeine and carbonated beverages now. After I gave up my 6 diet coke a day habit, I suffered from a week of severe withdrawal syndrome consisting of severe headaches and body aches. I was miserable. You don't want to combine the effects of caffeine withdrawal with the effects of surgery. Also stress can cause weight gain. So the recommendation to stay off the scale may be appropriate. Rachel412 116 Posted December 3, 2016 Why is it so important to stick to the liquid diet beside the norm liver shrink ? Sent from my Z981 using the BariatricPal App It really helps you to feel less shock when you're out of surgery and home and not eating. If you're using to just having liquids it's a bit easier on the brain.
Treadmillwalker 486 Posted December 3, 2016 Why is it so important to stick to the liquid diet beside the norm liver shrink ? Sent from my Z981 using the BariatricPal App It all about the liver. Regardless of which WLS the surgeon need to move the liver out of the way. If the liver has not shrunk due to not following the liquid diet you risk going open versus laproscopy. Bigger surgery, higher cost, more risk, etc. Had lapband surgery 10/12/
Djmohr 6,965 Posted December 3, 2016 @@redheadjo I know this can be frustrating but really it is helping you. Your body takes breaks and is probably fighting the loss but if you stick to the plan, your liver will shrink enough and you will lose weight. Also, the liquid diet helps you detox from all of the carbs/sugars and it really does make it easier to deal with the diet you will follow the rest of your life. If it makes you crazy, I suggest staying off the scale. also....i am sorry to say if it is making you crazy in pre-op, you might want to consider not weighing at all post op either. Initially you will gain back most everything you lose the week of surgery and then there will be many stalls along the way. Keep your eye on the prize and try not to worry about the scale.< /p> Best of luck to you!
