Back After 3yrs...and weight gain

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I haven't been on this app in years. I was sleeved (after having my lap band removed) in 2013. It's been a while. I've had to reconnect bc of weight gain, oh yeah it's real. I'm 5' 9" HW: 259...left: 170 cw:201....when I saw that number over 200 I almost passed out. I just came back from my nutritionist and that was hard bc I've had to relive my worst fear. I will not go back. I've signed up for several 5ks, 10k's and half marathon over the next year. I'm currently walking on an incline on the treadmill bc that burns the calories the fastest. I've paid for weight training and hot yoga, which I will implement over the next few weeks. I will not go back. I've come way too far. But I need support. So if anyone has advice, pls share. My motivation is here bc of fear but I'd like it to stay bc I'm comfortable with how I'm challenging myself.

Please join me

I just got sleeved on the 18th of november and this is a new life for me. I hardly know what I'm doing myself. If there is anything I can do for if u just need to talk im.available.

This scares me to hear because I will be sleeved on 1/10/17 and have seen so many regain. One of my customers said it was because she went back to sweets. I guess being back maybe start with a week of doing pre-sleeve diet just to retrain taste buds and then a day at a time. Track every bit of food, and journal which is good. I have to track or gain if I "choose" not to. I will go back the next day and put what I chose not to track and see the high caloric intake. It's so easy to gain as we all know. Wish you lots of willpower, you sound like you are in the right direction.

My heart goes out to you! I am glad you came back here, to BP.

In the General Weight-Loss Forum, there is a new "Regain and-back-on-track" Forum.

Link below:

I haven't regained, I am still working towards my goal.

What I have noticed, is that if I indulge in sweets, my weight stays the same, or even goes up slightly.

So, for me, I have to watch this!

I am currently doing mainly very high Protein diet, lot more Water and stepping up my exercise.

I log my food, like you in the MFP.

And I check in daily here, at BP.

I am going through the longest stall so far, however with my high Protein diet, I am noticing few NSVs, like my wrist watch is getting looser and looser, today my rings are finally loose, and it shows in my face and my clothes are looser too, despite the scales staying the same.

So, currently losing inches/centimetres.

Best of Luck and Best Wishes in your journey!

We are certainly all different, but I've done several n=1 experiments, and I have learned much about my body and metabolism.

I have learned that anything beyond a small to moderate amount of cheese will stall my weight loss totally. So the many delicious and low carb cheese recipes come with the added knowledge that the scale will not budge.

Starches are my Achilles' tendon. My blood sugar is impacted much more by bread than by sugar itself. The effect is longer and more pronounced, and thus anything made with wheat flour (whole grain or otherwise) will promote Water weight retention and weight gain besides. There is no moderate amount of starch for me, it has to be cut out totally.

Corn products, be it through sugar or tortillas or whatever will make me crave more of the same to an almost unbearable extent. I will literally dream about tacos and wake up unsure if it was all a dream (nightmare) or I really ate like 12 tacos. Corn Syrup is so ubiquitous in North America that it basically means eating real foods only to avoid them. No amount of time seems to improve my cravings for corn based foods, so I have to accept the reality that I can NEVER indulge that disastrous addiction. No different than a heroin addict having to swear the stuff off totally, lest they be dragged back into the life.

Like @@Hammer_Down starches are a killer for me. One bite and I go off the deep end. I had started going off track recently, one thing leads to another. I used to eat Pasta nightly (years back), measure out my 2 oz and my 4 oz chicken, spinach and salad....fast forward to 2010 or so and 2 oz turned into a half a box, that triggered wanting Cookies (which I was never a fan of) and menopause cravings.....well, 332 HW was reached. I feel great at 268, but don't want to be complacent and stay there. I have struggled to stay around this weight for a bit over a year. I realize now that to maintain lower, I too will just have to avoid carbs almost completely. I do buy Ezekiel type bread (2 loaves a year and freeze), I use when I have eggs on Sundays and not on daily basis. I don't eat too many corn things, as I am not a taco lover.....white wheat tortillas can definitely be a problem, any white---pita for hummus, Pasta, etc. I look forward to smaller stomach, as even on low carb, I have gotten to where I want to eat 12 oz of my highlander beef (and yes, I had eaten my broccoli and salad). I think I will start having more Protein drinks before my pre-op diet. Such a never ending battle, I watched all the YouTube with people not losing anymore, or gaining, so again....a reminder to self, this is just another tool....don't get comfy after honeymoon phase.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
