10 days post-op and nothing but diarrhea

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve on 21 Nov 16, I have had nothing but diarrhea several times a day. If I keep this up, I don't think I will be able to stay hydrated. Has anyone else experienced this and what did you do to resolve it?

I too had diarrhea for awhile. I just kept up on my fluids, most of it was caused by being near dehydration. Once I was getting enough Fluid, it stopped.

Do you have a NUT you cant talk to?

Do you track your intake and see any pattern?

I hope you feel better soon!!

If you are 10 days post op, fluids in means fluids out. Where would solid bowel movements come from when you aren't having any solids?

Just keep drinking, it will all change once you get on some solids and semi solids.

I'm gonna start tracking, that's a good idea. Thanks.

My diet allows me suger-free pudding and greek yogurt for week two, so I thought that would be enough to produce some solid.

I had the exact opposite problem, for 8 days post op I didn't have a BM.

Probably not a bad idea to check with your surgery team, there may be a medication you have an allergy to, or perhaps a sweetener in those sugar free treats.

(Google Amazon reviews for Haribo sugar-free Gummy bears to see what maltitol and xylitol do to some people's GI tract)

I will look into that, thank you. I have a suspicion it's the sweeteners. I didn't do artifical sweeteners until now.

I had the same problem. My nutritionist suggest taking a lactate pill before dairy products, and for me that worked. Keeping up with fluids was really hard, though. I added in some 0 calorie Powerade because I was waking up shakey and weak each day after diarrhea. Really, really push the Water so you don't get dehydrated.

Have the same problem and I am five weeks out. I had my gall bladder out years ago and have been prone to diarrhea since then. My suspicion is the sweeteners for the most part. It is getting better but my nut said some people just have this issue versus the Constipation.

I did a trial by eliminating things from my diet. Turns out it was the dairy. Apparently, I can't do dairy anymore. I had to go shopping since most of my liquid and soft foods were dairy based.

Have you tried taking lactaid pills? They're sold over the counter and work for some folks, but not everyone. You could also try asking your doctor for a prescription version. I don't actually know, but they may be stronger than the over-the-counter ones. My surgeon's physician's assistant told me she frequently prescribes this for people after surgery and said if I continue having tolerance issues with the dairy that she'd write one up for me. If you haven't, I'd try those two things. If you've already been down that path, please disregard haha.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
