Got my surgery date. Feb 7! I'm going to Dr Amit Taggar in Margate FL. 50, and about to be fabulous!

I was 69 when I had my sleeve revision from a band. It was not as easy a recovery as the band. I am 2 years post op now and have reached my goal but not without several conplications. I had dehydration and had to go back in the hospital two weeks later. I also have chronic diarrhea to this day. My internist can not find a reason for this but I think age plays a part.

I had mine at 59 and I am doing good. While the young girls went shopping afterwards I rested. It did me a world of good. The best thing to do is walk as much as you can when you wake up from surgery. It will help alleviate the gas in your stomach!

I had my sleeve, gall bladder removal and hernia repair 1 month before my 66th birthday.... no complications and virtually no pain, just abdominal soreness. I have lost a total of 86 pounds, 32 in the couple of months waiting for all my preop testing to be completed and the other 54 since my surgery. Like others, my only regret is not doing it sooner.

Hi Patrick. I am ,z67 and had the sleeve 6 months ago. I ended up with blood clots in my intestine one month after surgery and had three feet of intestine removed March 7, 2017. To this day I have explosive diarrhea sometimes as much as 10 times a day. The gastro Dr can't figure out why. He put me on a steroid and that has slowed it down some to 4-6 times a day. I am miserable most of the time and while I am glad I had the sleeve surgery I have been sick and in pain every day since Feb. 7,2027. This is the first time I have ever posted this info about my issues. Thank you for letting me vent. Good luck to you and by the way I was never like this prior to my surgery so I don't think I agree that it has to do with age.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
