Experts, when does the big drop happen?

Recommended Posts

I am 5 weeks out. I AM satisfied with my weight loss of 30 pounds so far. I have stalled but I here this is normal. I just wondered what weeks others saw dramatic loss? Thanks

I never saw dramatic loss. Slow and steady won the race for me -- and btw 30 lbs in 5 weeks is NOT slow, it is awesome. Good job!

You are probably not going to get a straight answer to this question, this is due to the fact that everyone loses as a different rate.

Everyone is different. I was huge and my loss at 5 to 6 weeks was about the same as yours and I thought it was slow ish, silly me.

I lost the fastest months 3 to 7. This was because I could eat enough to be active. After 6 to 9 months I credit all my weight loss to my chosen WOE more than the sleeve.

Way of eating, I eat Keto

Same here! I had great success with keto a few years ago, and so far I am replicating that success. I had to modify my plan a bit (everything I eat is approved, but I don't eat everything that is approved).

I have lost 18% of my total body mass in 6 weeks. As a big meat eater anyway, it's a natural fit for me.

Weight loss is not linear. I lost all of one pound in about eight days last week. By contrast, I lost four pounds from Sunday to today - or more than a pound a day. This is a lifetime commitment, not a race. I just keep telling myself that. ;-)

I thought ketos were bad for us - all those empty carbs and fake cheese. :P

Slow and steady for me as well, but that's okay, it's coming off!

This is what I lost month to month:

Date/Weight/Lbs Lost

10/2/14 - 260.8 (start of pre-op diet)

11/1/14 - 247 (13.8) surgery on 11/3/14

12/1/14 - 225.2 (21.8)

1/1/15 - 217.2 (8.6)

2/1/15 - 208.6 (8.6)

3/1/15 - 200.6 (8)

4/1/15 - 194.0 (6.6)

5/1/15 - 188.8 (5.2)

6/1/15 - 183.8 (5)

7/1/15 - 173.8 (10) I did Whole30 6/15

8/1/15 - 172.2 (1.6)

9/1/15 - 169.0 (4.8)

10/1/15 - 167.6 (1.4)

11/1/15 - 166.2 (1.4)

12/1/15 - 163.6 (2.6)

1/1/16 - 161.6 (2)

2/14/16 - 160.0 (GOAL WEIGHT!!!)

Just so you know, my weight fluctuated every day. Sometimes it even went up! But I only recorded from month to month to make sure I was getting an accurate trend of my weight loss. I was slow, but steady.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
