work after sleeve

Recommended Posts

I am waiting on my surgery to be scheduled. I have a small dilema about work that I was hoping to get some advice about. For my job I have to dress business casual and I am concerned about the cost of buying new clothes a lot as my size drops. I have been offered a different position where I can wear scrubs all day which will be a lot cheaper for my changing size. also my current position i can have constant acess to drinks/protein shakes but this new position I would have very limited acess throughout the day. there is no change in pay and i like both jobs but can't decide. how did everyone deal with clothing issues and lack of access to food/drink at work?

I just bought myself a couple of pair of pants at SAMS for $17.00 each and I wear them throughout the week. Also, I wear skirts that can fit many sizes. It can get expensive but nobody will know that you are wearing the same black pants. Tops can be worn much longer as you lose weight. Also, I wear business dress everyday and I have no issue going to a second-hand store during this weight loss period. You will definitely need to have access to fluids during the day so I would lie more heavily on that need.

EBay, Kohls, your local thrift store, thredup.com - you have lots of options. Don't change your job because you are nervous of the wardrobe requirements. For example -- I bought a pair of designer trousers that ordinarily cost over $500 for $12 at my local thrift store. Look at it as a fun challenge to get the most compliments on the cheapest clothes you can find :)

The clothes that last the longest through weight loss are skirts and dresses. If I had it to do all over I would never or rarely buy any pants. Dresses and belts so you can cinch them later are great options.

Also try to go for buying just a few pieces at a time. It will seem like you are always buying but it is more cost effective than buying a lot of clothes at one time only to wear them 2 to 3 weeks.

Also the smaller you get, the faster the sizes change.

Buy just what you need for a 2 to 3 week period for the first year.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
