Bakergrl214 27 Posted November 30, 2016 Hey everyone! New to the site and so far what I see it looks like a great support system and looking forward to coming here. My surgery is scheduled for December 19th and I am getting my FMLA paperwork started. I called my doctor and the suggest 6 weeks has anyone else been told this amount of time for the sleeve? 2ndSpring 350 Posted November 30, 2016 It depends on what you do for a living and how much you have to lift. You will have a lifting restriction for a few weeks while you heal. I work in an office and my doctor cleared me to return the following week. I took a week and a half off in total. I have the freedom to leave my desk when I want and there is a fridge and microwave, so it was no problem. I've also seen others post that even if they didn't need the extra time physically, it helped them get a solid start mentally. Good luck
blizair09 3,250 Posted November 30, 2016 I took six weeks off of work. It was the best decision I could have made in terms of recovery and adjusting to post-op life. Good luck!
Hazel_eyez 173 Posted November 30, 2016 (edited) I am 5 days post op and I felt like I could have went back yesterday but my only concern is I get hyper focused and would forget to drink Water. I am only taking a week off and I was outpatient. Oh, I work at a lab bench. Edited November 30, 2016 by Hazel_eyez
MowryRocks 679 Posted November 30, 2016 Sadly went back after 2 weeks. It was fine, I just really wanted more time to NOT be at work, but I was physically and mentally ok to be there.
Armygalbonnie 643 Posted November 30, 2016 I took 2 weeks and I needed longer. I'm on my feet about 50% of my job, going up-and-down from my chair all day long. I am 4 weeks out and I still have days where I have a lot of pain at the incision site where my stomach was removed. The pain will be sharp and stabbing. I know it's because I'm up-and-down too much and also doing too much.
amethyst391 18 Posted November 30, 2016 I would drive myself crazy if I stayed at home for 6 weeks. But that's just me. Everyone has their preference and sometimes it's job dependent. I went back to work a week and a half later. I worked part time and slowly worked my way up to a full work day because of lack of energy and mental fogginess. I'm in my 4th week post op and I feel almost normal. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
LittleBill 2,231 Posted November 30, 2016 I took a little more than six weeks. I work for myself, and my job involves a lot of heavy lifting. My doc recommended 6-8 weeks because of that. That took me to just about December. I make stuff for people (and teach the same) for my living, and with the exception of last minute gifts (which I don't have to do if I don't want) business slows down in December. So I took off until January. Now that I am pretty well healed up, I've been having a ball, living the life of a kept man for the past few weeks. On the other hand, Mrs. LittleBill has been reminding me that there is still stuff that needs doing around here.
