I was told I would but I didn't. Post op I just asked for non narcotics because I knew that they made you sick and didn't want any added discomfort. Worked just fine for me. By day 2 I was off pain meds completely.

Nope. They gave me dilaudid the first few hours after waking up, and that was it. I had a prescription for Oxy, but I didn't take any.

However, I did have a pain pump after my c-section, and it was marvelous. 2 thumbs up. Would try again.

I was getting scheduled narcotic pain medication plus the morphine pump for 24 hours. Took oral pain meds for a few days after getting home. As soon as I got compression on my abdomen the pain improved 90%.

Everyone is different when it comes to pain. I have had both hips replaced and was ready to go home the day after surgery the first time but had a five day post stay for pain management with the second one.

I was and I LOVED it... I was sad when it was blocked after a day and I had to have the line removed.

Believe me, you're going to want the pain pump. Don't be a hero.

i had a pain pump for about 36 hours. hardly used it but was glad it was there when needed. as Babbs said - don't be a hero. It is much better to keep the pain manageable than to let it get bad and try to recover.

Don't worry, the pain pump is pre set to a certain amount. ..u hit the button as much or little as you desire... you can't overdose

I was given dillaudid all through the first day and night plys acetaminophen drips and following day I got liquid Lortab which I needed for a week and a half. I definitely had substantial pain

Pain pumps are a tally better bc they give you control and remove axiety of having to wait. Research shows Pl often use less pain meds with the pump then when they have to wait for the nurse to get relief

I had a pump on a previous surgery and only issue was itching with morphine and they dosed me with benedryl also the pump alarm is loud if tampered with or handled lol

Yes! Nurses told me that it's better to use the morphine pump when I start feeling pain because once the anesthesia wears out, it'll be quite painful and uncomfortable. I used it for about 24 hours every 3-4 hours. I went home next day and used liquid hydrocodone/Tylenol for about 6 days. I had to ween myself off and just stuck with Tylenol for another 2 days so I could drive and go back to work. Completely pain free after that. Everyone's pain tolerance is different and kudos to those that hardly took pain meds. I'm a bit of a weeny.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
