Raechel 75 Posted November 30, 2016 I was told I would but I didn't. Post op I just asked for non narcotics because I knew that they made you sick and didn't want any added discomfort. Worked just fine for me. By day 2 I was off pain meds completely. Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App
Vinasu 621 Posted November 30, 2016 Nope. They gave me dilaudid the first few hours after waking up, and that was it. I had a prescription for Oxy, but I didn't take any. However, I did have a pain pump after my c-section, and it was marvelous. 2 thumbs up. Would try again. Bufflehead 6,358 Posted November 30, 2016 No, they just gave me liquid lortab every several hours. That stuff is nasty!
RNMomof4 86 Posted November 30, 2016 No...I took one little dilaudid pill (mostly for a headache) while in the hospital. They also gave me iv toradol and Tylenol. No problems. Sent from my iPhone
Aggiemae 739 Posted November 30, 2016 I was getting scheduled narcotic pain medication plus the morphine pump for 24 hours. Took oral pain meds for a few days after getting home. As soon as I got compression on my abdomen the pain improved 90%. Everyone is different when it comes to pain. I have had both hips replaced and was ready to go home the day after surgery the first time but had a five day post stay for pain management with the second one. _Kate_ 2,224 Posted November 30, 2016 I was and I LOVED it... I was sad when it was blocked after a day and I had to have the line removed. Kate
Babbs 14,681 Posted November 30, 2016 Believe me, you're going to want the pain pump. Don't be a hero.
heidikat72 935 Posted November 30, 2016 i had a pain pump for about 36 hours. hardly used it but was glad it was there when needed. as Babbs said - don't be a hero. It is much better to keep the pain manageable than to let it get bad and try to recover.
Butterflywarrior 241 Posted November 30, 2016 Don't worry, the pain pump is pre set to a certain amount. ..u hit the button as much or little as you desire... you can't overdose I was given dillaudid all through the first day and night plys acetaminophen drips and following day I got liquid Lortab which I needed for a week and a half. I definitely had substantial pain Pain pumps are a tally better bc they give you control and remove axiety of having to wait. Research shows Pl often use less pain meds with the pump then when they have to wait for the nurse to get relief I had a pump on a previous surgery and only issue was itching with morphine and they dosed me with benedryl also the pump alarm is loud if tampered with or handled lol Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T807A using the BariatricPal App
amethyst391 18 Posted November 30, 2016 Believe me, you're going to want the pain pump. Don't be a hero. Yes! Nurses told me that it's better to use the morphine pump when I start feeling pain because once the anesthesia wears out, it'll be quite painful and uncomfortable. I used it for about 24 hours every 3-4 hours. I went home next day and used liquid hydrocodone/Tylenol for about 6 days. I had to ween myself off and just stuck with Tylenol for another 2 days so I could drive and go back to work. Completely pain free after that. Everyone's pain tolerance is different and kudos to those that hardly took pain meds. I'm a bit of a weeny. aligator517 60 Posted November 30, 2016 They gave me the pump but I absolutely didn't want it because the pain meds made me so nauseous. For me, I preferred dealing with the pain. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
ambernoel 79 Posted November 30, 2016 I'm a recovering addict- I've been clean for 7 years but I'm still very concerned with having narcotics I'm not trying to be a hero but I don't want to be under big pharma again Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
