Hello there. I was 80 pounds overweight and adding up a couple more by week, in six months I was diagnosed with diabetes and glaucoma. The I knew i was over 100 pounds overweight with high blood pressure and ketoasidosis due to diabetes. . I was in pain in my body every time I started to walk. So I was looking for a gastric sleeve surgery and find this Mexican Facebook group that performed, I had my labs done, and doc. Time that I had to Control my sugar level and A1c. So my US. Doc prescribe Victoza, after a week I went back to the Mexican doc. And he ask me I I could pay for the surgery that moment, and I did. So he scheduled me for THE FOLLOWING DAY!! It was a red flag but I was so excited. I could picture myself with no pain an new clothes.. after surgery was the most horrible pain I can describe. Nurses ask me to take a shower, an the pain was agonizing but I did, after the thrd day I was allowed to drain Water, but the pain was getting worse by the day, and I was terrorized to vomiting. I had terrible stomach spasms and episodes of painful heart tachycardia, with all that I was released and send back home . I was instructured to have one chamomile tea, one cup of sweet nectar apricot a s 4 oz of yellow for a week. After 3 day at home I pass out and was rush to the hospital. The cat scan showed that the drain was between muscle skin and ribs. And I had hipokalmia, a condition were your potasion drops down to a dangerous label. US Doc. Told me that I was 'about to drop dead'from heart failure. I went back to Mex. As soon as I was released from hospital. And they are denying any responsibility. But the doctor mention to me that I can have. Soup with vegetables. And continue the liquid diet. Boy I don't trust much!!. I have learn in this group that . That thereare 3 diet steps or 3 lebels?. Please. What a regular diet for a single day could I have and for how long?? I had my surgery on the 16. Out of the icu on the 22. . The soup with veggies make me sick. It had to be just clear. Friends are helping me suggesting foods but I learn through this group I shouldn't been eating yogurt. My surgery was live broadcasts and is still at the group of this Mexican doctor. By the way. Find a good trusted Bariatric doctor and have a second opinion. All the symptoms you describe do not sound good. I did my surgery 2 weeks ago and already at work, no pain, no vomiting. Please do your research and go to somebody knowledgeable. .

For the first 3 months you should have nothing but Clear liquids and Protein drinks then after 3 months you can begin with soft like eggs and still Protein Drinks. You can find a book on gastric sleeve that will tell you step by step what doctors recommend. I'm 7 months post-op and eating pretty much what is tolerated. Be aware that if your sleeve surgery was done properly you may not be able to tolerate what you once could and your taste could change.....my tastes have changed and I cannot tolerate eggs or mayo, sounds weird I know.. I've lost 117 to-date after 7 months so you will do great just follow a reputable diet and not this Mexico doctor and like the last person said find a u.s.doctor asap, for your health...but do your homework and see how many of these surgeries doctor has performed and see what reviews doctor has been given by his/her patients.. hope this helps! Good luck!!

Also like Zalina said I had no pain either and was back at work after 3 weeks and that was due to the nausea I suffered with but all of that is gone....this was the best decision I could have made.

Please be aware that not all teams state 3 months for clear liquids and Protein drinks. Mine was one week clear, one week liquids, two weeks pureed, two weeks soft and then if i was ready then onto general food. I ended up staying on some of the levels for longer as I wasnt ready for the next stage. Personally, I feel three months of clear liquids and drinks is way too long (just my own opinion) but you should find a good bariatric team and follow their instructions.

I really do hope you feel better soon xx

I personally could not have moved off clear liquids any sooner because I had severe nausea so for me it was perfect but yes it was super long but as I look back now it worked for me. Once you find a reputable doctor he/she will let you know what's best for you. They are all different so following your doctor is best but I recommend you find that doctor asap..

A DR removed 2/3s of your stomach without any preoperative education because you could pay. And you don't even know what you are supposed to eat?

Please post his name and clinic address here, you would be doing a service for others her tries to prey on.

You need to find a bariatric surgeon or medical weight loss program that has a staff nutritionist and physical therapy in house. close to home and be seen ASAP.

There are many resources on line with post-op diet plans you can use for the short term. It's not ideal, but it sounds like you were cut loose without any real support, and if I read your post right, your surgeon doesn't have you eating anything with significant Protein. You have got to ramp up your Protein in order to heal.

It will be very important for you to find a doctor to follow up here stateside, ASAP. A bariatric specialist would be ideal, but many are leery of doing followup on another surgeon's work. The 2nd best option would be a gastroenterologist. If nothing else, find a primary doctor who knows something about bariatric patients.

Here's a link to one of many bariatric diet phases that you can use UNTIL you get a local doctor.

http://www.floydbariatrics.org/floyd-bariatrics-sleeve-gastrectomy-diet.html

However, since you are having complications, you are going to need to move very slowly and carefully through the phases. I would start with finding a Protein shake you like and add that in, because you have to have protein to heal. The link I gave says 72g, which is a good start, but if you can push that up closer to 100g/day so much the better. Once you can tolerate the shakes well, another good first food is greek yogurt (blended, no chunks of fruit).

You also need to be getting LOTS of fluids in - Water, broth, gatorade, popsicles, sugar-free Jello, etc. Anything that is liquid at room temperature and you can generally see through it counts. Recommended amounts vary, but a generally good rule is a goal of 64oz/day, increasing it as you can to 100+/day.

Then add foods ONE AT A TIME, starting with things that are liquid, and VERY SLOWLY working toward pureed foods. Add a new food for a couple of days and make sure it's sitting well with you before you add the next.

I hate that you had no education and no good followup. Right now you need to focus on three things: get a local doctor, get your protein in, and get your fluids in.

Wow, this advise is life saving, I have to survive out of the hospital until I find a American doctor. To check on the reviews is a great point too. I will do. I am starting to get to picture.

My drain was removed because it was under my skin and muscle.. it never drawn anything from my stomach cavity, nor gas or fluids to proper healing which I thing was worse. The US Cat scan showed it up. And yes, this doctors are telling me what to eat,: te, yellow and oversweetened apricot juice that gives me cramps and heartburn. If you go to a Facebook page. Pierde Kilos Gana salud, " or. Dr. Alan Cervantes ..and look for live broadcasts nov.16. There is my surgery. Perhaps, after my ICU hospital stay this group might had the video remove.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
