Converting from lapband to bypass???

You might get an answer to your question on at this message board: www.bariatriceating.com. This site has a lot of folks who have had gastric bypass. It is very good.

There are much better places. Bariatriceating.com is about the most expensive place on the internet to buy products. They have the morality of a stray alley cat.

I have not had a revision but I was considering Lap Band Surgery until I went for my consult with the surgeon. I left with many questions that I needed to answer truthfully. I ended up going back for a 2nd consult with the surgeon a couple weeks later to switch from Lap Band to RNY Bypass. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

For me personally I had to take a long and hard look at the reasons I was overweight. Why do I keep failing each time on every diet I try? I have read many, many times that if you have a sweet tooth that the band might not be a good tool to choose. I know that is my #1 problem. I have loved sweets since I was a kid and if I can eat them with the band without any consequences, I know that I will eventually. I could not allow myself to have a surgery that I knew deep down in my heart I might fail. Even though I was terrified of having the RNY Bypass and still have fears about having the surgery I know its’ the better option for me.

I hope you are able to figure out what is causing you to think the band is not working for you and able to work it to the fullest. Surgery is not something to take lightly and I personally do not want to undergo any more surgeries than I have to.

I wish you the best of luck and success with your tool.

Hey BadFla,

((I got the "VSG" sleeve.)) What I liked about the sleeve was it is much less invassive than the DS.or RNY and None of the malabsorbtion issues..

ALSO... Along with the portion of the stomach removed.. Also takes with it.. That Nasty little "grehlan Producing" Gland.. Which IS the devil that Stimulates your natural Hunger impulse.. I have been sleeved for 8 months now.. and have lost over 130 lbs.. No sign of diabetes, No more high Blood Pressure, Im eating Less. and Much Healthier than ever before !!

It may be expensive to buy food from the site, but I found the message board contains very useful information. Also, I have found some of their food and Vitamins to be lower cost than at GNC or my doctor's office. The sales are very good. Not sure what you mean about their morals.

One of their employees came over to OH's sleeve board slam dunking someone a few weeks ago. She's a nurse that works there. Apparently this nurse (an LPN) was "counseling" someone on their inability to lose weight days or weeks prior to this thread. She thought one of the posters on OH was the person she was counseling (her license does not permit her to do this, btw) and turns out, they were two very different people. She was telling others in the thread about the posters personal issues. Again, turned out she was dead wrong but she thought she was telling about the poster. This was in retaliation for what the poster was saying about Bariatriceating.com.

You won't find many sleeve folks that will buy from them. I think it's probably time to find that thread and let the newbies know what bariatriceating is all about.

BTW, many complained to bariatriceating about the behaviors of their nurse. They didn't care, made no difference to them.

The reason they are out of things all the time is because they can't pay their bills on time and manufacturers stop sending shipments until they pay their past due bills. I was offered a job by a company that would have sold products to bariatriceating and the first thing I was told was to be careful about sending products to them until they pay their bills. Turns out, I backed out of that job the day before I was to start but it was interesting to hear the scoop. ;o) It's just a very poorly run company.

Their products are over priced, their morality is ... well, they don't have any, their customer service sucks, their packing is poor and you receive items that are crushed and broken, they don't stand behind their products, they post personal details about their customers, they are about as rude and without class as you can be, overall they just suck.

No way would I support such a company.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
