I had surgery on nov 18th too!! And i have the same feeling too is a light pain, but it goes away in seconds, just try to chew and chew your food to make it easy for your little pouch and measure the quantity but mention that to your surgeon too my mom had the surgery a year ago and she said it was normal because your little stomach is sore and getting used to foods again!! Good luck

Thanks yesica. I feel like it is normal. Also I get gas or air stuck and I can't take another bite till that comes up. Lol. I must say that I'm being so much more paranoid than I should be. I'm doing really well actually. Despite one bad slip up on day six but yes, I'm doing well. I just have to get used to all of the new things. Different bites even. How are u doing?

From what I know . You should be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks, then on a pureed diet for 2 weeks b4 you start eating solids. You need to keep in mind that your stomach is not the same size as prior to your procedure . Its actually smaller now and you can cause damage to your self and stomach.

Dr Matthew Weiner says if it hurts, don't do it. You're either eating too much or too fast. Take TINY baby spoon bites and chew well. If it still hurts, maybe go back to shakes for a few days and see if you can try again later without pain.

Thanks for the awesome advice babbs. Tonight I realized that I was taking really big bites and that's what was causing the pain. Tonight when I ate my refried Beans I just barley had some on the tip of the spoon and I would just lick the spoon. I feel much better now.

Yes.U should be on liquids for at least 2, 3 weeks. Your stomach is in the healing phase. You just had surgery. No eating unless nurse tells you to advance.

That may be your doc's program, but not necessarily the OP's or anyone else's. Your program may call for liquids exclusively for two weeks, while others may do it for three or four weeks, or just one week or none at all - it depends upon the doc's experiences and sometimes individual patient needs and tolerances. For instance, my program was for purees and soft Proteins like eggs, yogurt, some seafoods along with liquids from the outset, with the caveat being that if something wasn't tolerated then back up a step to other foods that are tolerated and try again in a couple of weeks. Some wind up being more liquid intense than others for a while depending upon their individual needs. From what I have seen, more programs are heading this direction as more surgeons get more sleeve experience. This is what makes it difficult to give much specific advice to people on these forums beyond coordinating with their surgical team, who they (or their insurance) paid to provide such advice and support.

To the OP, no it's not normal to have stomach pain while eating, tho some foods may cause some discomfort which is a warning sign to back off and take things a little slower. Try new things one at a time and in small quantity to test your tolerance for them, If they go through well then fine, add that to your menu; if not then try it again in a few weeks and go with something known for the moment.

Yes, what u have written here makes sense. I can't imagine a life with no Beans lol. I'm just not ready to get rid of Beans even if for a week. I'm Mexican and beans are my life lol. Jk. But I guess I have to prepare myself for the possibility that my stomach my not be able to tolerate them anymore. Thanks for the advice. I'm going to step away from the beans for about 3 days and see if that helps.

If something (for example eating food you have to "chew, chew, chew" 10 days post op) HURTS you need to STOP doing it. You just had MAJOR SURGERY.

Yes, it's normal. A couple of weeks after surgery, I had a day or two when my stomach ached really bad. I tried liquid tylenol and it helped a lot.

Well I have not had my surgery yet until Jan 30th . I'm going based on all the research I did on my own for the past year and what three of my cousins said and a very good friend of mine who all had the surgery. Out of the four only one had the lap band . Yes all surgeons are different with their programs. Thankfully none of them had no issues and are doing great.

I'm doing well. Smaller bites and smaller drinks and I'm no longer in pain or discomfort.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
