Sleeved 11/25 - My immediate post-op goals - What are yours?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was sleeved on the 11/25, and am now three days out. I had gas pains and was quite nauseous right after the surgery. I think I threw up about 3 times, and I was a bit alarmed because I saw some reds in there. Worried whether things were ok. My surgeon did not use a drain, so I did a leak test while on the x-ray, and everything went well there. no leaks. I'm actually pleasantly surprised that the liquid did not burn going down, or did not taste too bad.

Went home after two days in the hospital and was given anti-gas, anti-nausea, and anti-pain. I have only taken the anti-pain so far once.

My immediate goals are to get the surgery gas out as much as possible. I have been walking around a lot and that has helped tremendously. I also noticed the more I ate of warm broths, the better luck I had with burping. And yes, For every burp I felt better and better!

My second goal is to get as much fluids in. So far I have been able to have a few ounces of chicken broth, shrimp broth, and onion ring broth (only liquids). Yesterday, I had dragon fruit flavored water. This went down well. I sipped the entire day.

Challenges: I am still learning when it comes to eating slower, and sipping. I have been an extremely fast eater all my life so this has been a bit hard. Especially when I find myself doing it mindlessly. The slower I sip the more likely I am in getting down more liquids.< /p>

How's everyone doing? What are or what were your immediate goals after getting Sleeve surgery?

It sounds like your surgery went well, congratulations!! Mylanta minis helped me with gas (still does)

I'm already three weeks out and I'm still working on upping my Protein and Water intake. It's so much harder than I thought it would be! LOL My goal is to get to 90 g of Protein and 72 oz Water.

Congrats on your surgery. I am 7 days post op and my goals are to build stamina back by walking and to get in all Protein and viatmins. I'm am sooo bored of Protein shakes already, can't wait for something different.

This surgery is a real test of patience and commitment. But to feel better, I am willing to do it. Best wishes to you in your recovery!

@ @@KCBO Thank you! Good luck to you as well.

Yesterday, I was able for the first time to get in 64oz of fluids since my surgery. It's doable!

Celebrating 5 weeks today. My goals are to have more Water and to eat more solids. I loved eggs before the sleeve now find that I can't take it at all. I am also so sick of water. Ugh, I'm beginning to think the self-hate, omg what have I done, part of my journey has begun. :(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
