General Question!

I'm a couple years older but I'm currently 9 days post op gastric sleeve! I'm 26 and so far so good! I also know someone who is a couple years younger than me (not quite sure of her age) and she had the actual bypass done and she looks and is doing great!

Hey everyone. Please I need a serious help????

I'm 6 weeks post op and I only loose 18 pound like 3 weeks after surgery, since then I haven't lost anything and just last week's my scale said I gain 2 pound back. I'm so scared and nervous that this will work for me. I'm doing everything by the book, going to the gym , I walk or run 5 miles within an hour 4-5 times a week. The only thing I noticed I do different is, I can not tolerate all my 64 Oz of Water but I do get like 24 Oz in or more. Pls help me if u have an idear what I need to do different.

Hi funke, I haven't had my bypass yet but I had 3 other (non-bariatric) major abdominal surgeries (one open and two laparoscopic) -- I am very shocked that you are running 5 miles only 6 weeks after surgery. Are you 100% sure that your surgeon has released you to do that vigorous of exercise? Running jars your insides sharply each time your weight lands on a foot. You don't want to rip any stitches or staples.

It's entirely possible that you are stressing your body so much that it is in a panicked-starvation-mode hanging on to the safety net of fat for dear life. Have you considered dialing back your exercise to gentle walking 5 days a week and focusing on getting good nutrition? Are you getting the amount of Protein per day that your doctor wants?

Also, a plateau at 3 weeks post is common, so I hear. Our body manages our weight by defending a "set point" -- as we lose we periodically hit "plateaus" as our body adapts to a new set point.

Hang in there -- I'm sure that you will lose again soon! :-).

@ funke. The scale will go up and down. Its normal. I sometimes gained 5 lbs and then would drop it overnight. I only weigh myself in the mornings and I weigh myself weekly. You'll drive yourself crazy weighing yourself every day. You need to get in the 64oz of Fluid as this is what flushes out everything. Have you tried things with flavor( Powerade zero, crystal light, green tea zero, diet snapple)? You literally need to have a drink with you all day. Sip sip sip...you'll get all over fluids in if you do. You'll have stalls through out the process. I sometimes stalled for weeks, even months. Its normal. Just keep going by the guidelines and get your fluids and Protein in and you will lose the weight.

I had my gastric bypass about 4 months ago and have lost 75 pounds. It is important to drink your fluids and get your Protein to lose weight. I too had trouble getting my fluids and Protein. I use to drink Water all day but after my surgery couldn't stand it. Try different things. I found out I had no problem drinking Decaf coffee, no-sugar hot chocolate, Tomato juice, Soup, etc. Just try different things and eventually your taste for plain ole Water will come back. As for protein I couldn't stomach Protein drinks or bars. My doctor told me to try GENEPRO. I order in from Amazon. One tablespoon has 30 grams of protein and is unflavored. You can put it in your coffee, hot chocolate, or whatever. It doesn't change the consistency or flavor. It is great!

Hi. I had the lapband to bypass revision on September 21St. I am down 63.4 lbs in less than 3 months! My starting weight was 307.6, surgery weight was 291.0 and now I am currently 244.2! I feel great and cant believe how fast the weight is falling off. Its a huge life change so be mentally prepared for that. Best of luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
