OneReallyBigBird 267 Posted November 28, 2016 Hello everyone. I'm scheduled to have my gastric sleeve surgery on December 14. I know I'm definitely going to need some support, someone to talk to who can relate to the day to day challenges of the post-op lifestyle. If there is anyone who wants to be a mentor or buddy please let me know. I'm currently 443 lbs and I know it's a long road to reach my goal weight, but with the assistance of the sleeve and the support of understanding people, I'm sure I can do it.:-D HW:660 CW:443 GW:??? BTW how do you add someone as a friend on this site Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Hey Lisa! I would love for us to be buddies. To add someone as a friend I believe you have to use the actual Bariatricpal website instead of the app. Via the website click on a member's name to reach their profile page and then you will see the option to add the member as a friend. Good luck with your surgery on the 12, mine is scheduled for December 14 and yesterday my surgeon's office called me to ask if I would like to move up my surgery date to December 6, due to a cancellation. I have been debating the pros and cons all night. I think I'm probably going to stick with the date of the 14th, to give myself more time to prepare, and to gather the supplies I will need for after the surgery. I apologize for rambling on and on. I'm just thinking out loud to try and make up my mind, and I'm nervous as hell about the surgery. Lol.
lisa52 12 Posted December 2, 2016 I'm nervous too, I know I need it but you hear so many horror stories on these sites. I've heard lots of success stories as well though. I think sticking to your original date is probably a smart move. We'll be fine. Have you started your pre-op diet? I start mine on Monday. I think sticking to your original date is probably a smart move. We'll be fine. Have you started your pre-op diet? I start mine on Monday. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App My surgeon told me I didn't need a pre-op diet because I had lost another 20 lbs since I saw him 4 weeks ago. I simply have to do "liquids only" the day before, and don't eat or drink after midnight the night before. I have to be at the hospital at noon, and my surgery is scheduled for 2:30 pm. I was told the surgery takes 1 hour. I have to stay overnight and go home the next day. I'm a little nervous because I was also told that I would need to take a medication for blood clots as a precaution. My nervousness comes from the fact that I will have to administer the medication via injection in my stomach twice a day, and I'm not especially keen on giving myself shots. However, because I once had a blood clot situation in the past, I know how dangerous that situation can be. I'm sure we'll both be fine, just gotta relax and take things day by day, right..? lisa52 12 Posted December 2, 2016 I know what you mean on the shots, I am a diabetic and I had a really hard time giving myself shots at first. My best advice for that is don't think about it and just do it. I would sit there for like 45 minutes trying to psych myself up, and in the end I still had to give myself the shot, so just do it. My surgery is out patient and I'm a little nervous about not staying at least one night. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
