Pickles and olives

Recommended Posts

I tried a year out of surgery, pickles and onions don't agree with me anymore but olives are lush.

They are a slider food for me though so I don't have them very often and usually when I am eating out so I can't hog the whole jar!

Yes - I've had both. I occasionally eat a pickle spear with my tuna or as a snack at the movie theater when my husband is devouring popcorn. I had a couple of green olives on Thanksgiving. Both are approved by my NUT and surgeon, but I don't eat them regularly bc they have no nutritional value and are high in sodium.

I started eating them two months out, chopped in salmon salad. I have no issues with either.

I enjoy both occasionally. But not until I was about 3 months out and approved by my bariatric center. I just have to watch the sodium intake for the day though because I do retain Fluid like crazy after a sodium heavy day.

I haven't had olives yet but I will. I am still eating Soups and purees! I could introduce new things as I am 2 months out but...I have my 'routine' what I shop for and what I cook so I have to make an effort to have variety.

Love both. Eat a pickle spear with cheese and sausage as a snack nearly every day. Never had any restrictions regarding them once I was in regular food phase. Actually, I did eat green olives even in soft food stage. Chopped them up fine, mixed with cream cheese, and rolled up in a slice of deli ham. The salty/sweet combo was a big hit at that point. Mmmmm.

I'm looking forward to a Vlasic Bold & Spicy pickle, eventually! Mmm Tabasco-flavored pickles...

@@laylalayla I was sleeved on nov 9th of this year, and my nutritionist was okay with me having pickles two weeks post op.

it was the only thing I could eat. I'd eat a pickle spear and take incredibly small bites. it was the only thing I could keep down.

she said that it was fine as long as nothing was getting stuck in my throat or anything. Because they weren't sharp or crispy she wasn't concerned with my stomach lining either. even my surgeon was okay with me eating pickles.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
