Losing weight to slow after gastric sleeve?

Recommended Posts

When I went for my three month check up the surgeon said that I haven't lost enough weight. That by now I should have lost 60-70 pounds three months post op. Has anyone else heard this?

It really depends on the weight at which you started.

I'm still pre-op but I've used this chart to curb my expectations.

Are you following your diet exactly?

I wasn't given any expectations of how much I'd lose in a month or 6 months or anything. Some people just lose slower than others. As long as you're following your plan and your weight is going in the right direction I don't see what else you can do!

Also, 46 lbs in 3 months seems decent to me.

I am following my diet exactly. I have never cheated even once. I was so blown away because I thought I was doing well. I exercise every single day. I thought it went by your starting weight.

so you've lost 46 lbs since surgery or all together? how much have you lost since surgery?

are you meeting your Water and Protein goals every day?

That sounds crazy to me. I started out as a relative heavy weight. I lost about 40 lbs in the first three months and my bariatric np told me I was doing fantastic and better than they had charted out for me, expectation-wise. I had a super-strict plan and followed it to the T.

I was not given a "you better lose this by this time" guideline..During the process of visits before Surgery (Nov 9), we only spoke of what I wanted to lose and my expectations of the journey..I hate that they put that mental stress on you because that is something we all have stressed about (weight)...I hope you find your pace and reach your goal in your own time..no worries.

My surgeon and I talked about a timeline for weight loss, but he also cautioned me that many people don't lose according to any chart or timeline, but still achieve their desired weight loss goal.

He has this rough formula that he says generally plays out over time for most people...whatever you lose in the first 3 months, you'll usually lose half of that in the second 3 months, then half of the number from the second 3 months every 3 months afterward until you decide to go into maintenance.

I lost just over 50 in my first 3 months and I'm right on track to lose another 25 before my 6 month mark, so it's proving to be right for me. I'm hoping to bust his formula in the third 3 months, though, and get to maintenance by the first of March.

Maybe you are gaining muscle, while at the same time losing fat.

Yeah that seems like a lot to me. I've never heard of a surgeon being annoyed that someone lost nearly 50 lbs in 3 months. That doesn't sound like a slow loss. My surgeon would not give me a timeline regarding loss because everyone is so different and I guess he didn't want me to get discouraged if I didn't meet a deadline. I was sleeved on 10/11 and have lost 29 lbs since I started my 1 week pre op diet. I hope to be near 40 by my 3 month. Just keep following your plan and getting your Protein and Water. I think that as long as you're on plan and losing there's nothing to worry about.

sounds similar to my 3 month post op appointment. Only in my case it was the nutritionist who wasn't impressed with my 48lbs lost since surgery. She told me that was the very bottom end of where I should be. Now I will say, this was a new nutritionist as the one I had up to that point (who I loved and dearly miss) went to another hospital. So I asked this new nutritionist to go through my food diary with me - i had printed the last month's worth of entries from MFP. She refused and simply said I mustn't be logging everything - which wasn't true. I asked her for advice on where I should be calorie wise, carb-wise and fat-wise since I was meeting my Protein and Fluid goals. She said there weren't any guaranteed levels for carbs or fat regarding weightloss and that I had to figure it out myself. Needless to say, I wasn't impressed with her - don't tell me I'm not meeting expectations and then refuse to help guide me! Then my actual surgeon came in and was thrilled with my weight loss. And the fact is I was happy with that 48lb loss because I FELT soooo much better!

However I'm not looking forward to the 6 month post op appointment in 2 weeks. I've lost 34lbs in the last 3 months. And I'm 160lbs down from this time last year when I had my first appointment with the bariatric team. I just don't feel like dealing with her!

At the end of the day, I'm not trying to impress a nutritionist but rather my focus is regaining my health. And that I am definitely doing - my overall health hasn't been this good in decades. I am doing things that I couldn't even dream of doing this time last year. And that is success to me!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
