Finally able to eat my favorite food!

Recommended Posts

So some of you have seen my posts about the best "healthy" wings - i love buffalo wings. Well, now at 10 weeks and 3 days out I have had them (all of 3 delicious little things).

So, to all of you newly post op wondering when you can eat your favorite foods I promise eventually you will be able to make a healthy version - it feels like forever, but it's not! Hang in there - whatever your chicken wing equivalent is will be here soon

(Just don't go back to your old ways of eating them)

That's for posting this. I wonder if I will ever be able to enjoy food (in moderation) after surgery. It makes you think this is not a good idea.

Sent from my XT1650 using the BariatricPal App

I wondered the same, but I really haven't found anything I can't replace with a healthier option. I was a big eat out of convenience person - a lot of fast food, frozen dinners, delivery. If you want a burger, just eat a mini turkey burger no bun. chicken wings? Bake them instead. Pasta? Try zoodles. There's a lot of easy swaps. And don't get me wrong, I still had a bite of pumpkin and a bite of pecan pie Thanksgiving. But the mashed potatoes, the rolls - just didn't call to me, and my 2 bites of dessert was satisfying, didn't need or want more.

The only thing that I wonder about is will I be able to have a high quality root beer when I go camping or bbq. This will wait until the maintenance phase.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
