Canned chicken / stage 3 / soft foods

Recommended Posts

I've never had canned chicken but have heard it is not good unless you use it in a Soup, dip or some other kind of mixture. I have several cans in my pantry I bought for after surgery and still haven't used them. Please post if you make something yummy with it. I made tuna salad all the time with a little mayo, dab of mustard, chopped boiled egg, chopped pickles, Pickle Juice and salt and pepper.

We buy skinless, boneless breasts, and roast them. If you soak them in brine (saltwater) overnight, and then roast them at 425° for about 45 minutes with foil tight over the pan, they come out extremely tender. Spray the roasting pan with some olive oil, add some pepper, onion and garlic powder, or any other spices you want, and you have several meals ready to heat for not a lot of money. We buy the stuff on sale for $2.00/lb.

We eat it as is, or make it into chicken salad, chicken enchiladas with refried Beans, and so on.

A brick of cream cheese, aarge can of chicken, 1/2 cup of wing sauce, 1/2 packet of ranch seasoning. Mix and bake at 350 for 20ish minutes. It's fantastic!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
