anonmom 95 Posted November 27, 2016 Mine was a 2-hour interview about my weight history, mental health history, general health, why I wanted bariatric surgery, questions about my support systems and relationships, questions to make sure I have realistic expectations of the surgery, etc, followed by about 90 minutes of psychological testing (the MMPI and 3 shorter surveys) Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App
JenniferAnne 11 Posted November 27, 2016 Mine was just about identical to what anonmom described. We also discussed complications and he seemed to harp on support system Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
AnnaKarenina 11 Posted November 27, 2016 Im wondering what kind of questions the psychological doctor asks you to aprove your surgery? Anyone willing to let me in on the ???s milliesmith25 I have mine on Tuesday afternoon so I'll let you know. I don't think mine is going to be as extensive as what the other two were saying. When I made the appointment I asked how long I should expect to be there so I would know if I should take the day off work and she said it's usually 45 min and 1/2 hour with the doctor I took 1/2 day off anyway. teedsg 253 Posted November 28, 2016 @@millies25412, mine was about an hour long and I filled out a form. She asked me why I wanted the surgery, do I have a support base at home, child hood history of eating, how to be successful with the weight loss, how my family or friends think about my decision, and setting realistic expectations... She recommended me to see about getting therapy for binge eating.
mrs_ross26 76 Posted November 28, 2016 I've been wondering this myself. Obviously, I want to be honest but I'm afraid I'll say the wrong thing and won't get approved. I mean, I didn't get in the shape I'm in with my weight without having issues surrounding food. I want to have a positive outlook and my husband is WAY more supportive than I thought he would be. He's even wanting to go with me to my first consultation appointment, which shocked me! Anyone know what you SHOULD DEFINITELY NOT SAY? Or is that cheating? Redmaxx 740 Posted November 29, 2016 My head shrinker is a RNY kangaroo as well. I think she asked the appropriate questions and I answered them truthfully.
AnnaKarenina 11 Posted November 29, 2016 Mine was today.. 10-15 min filling out paperwork, standard medical stuff, I had to bring a complete list of all medications including Vitamins and supplements that I am taking. I met with the psychiatrist for about 15 min. She asked about my weight history, when did I start gaining weight, what types of things had I tried to loose weight. Why do I want surgery. I live alone so she asked who would help me after the surgery. I told her I would stay with my parents if need be after surgery (the live about 15 min away) and that I had already spoken to my neighbor about helping me take care of my 2 cats because I was worried about being able to bend over to feed them. Cape Crooner 589 Posted November 30, 2016 (edited) I think they're trying to figure out if you'll self sabotage your results. I found they were super impressed with a 2 page history of weight loss efforts, exercise history, and weight loss prescription drugs (along with doctors notes). I'm a sleever and the only way we fail is to graze all day and/or consume sugary drinks, candies, etc. Expect a lot of questions about what you eat and anticipate that they'll be assessing the sincerity of your answers. If you're honest and appear committed to following the program, you'll do fine. Edited November 30, 2016 by Cape Crooner
