I had my surgery on 11/23 and I am so terribly sore on my right side only. Has anyone else had this, I am sure it is from the surgery and I will be ok it is just a pain in the butt to move around and I am not walking as much as I should be. Using the potty is a painful chore for me.

Is your largest incision on your right abdomen? If so, it's probably where they pulled your stomach out and that really stretches the muscles...the soreness should let up in a few days.

Yes, that is where they pulled my stomach out, I feel like someone punched me in the gut and winded me bad, very hard to move around and I feel bad because I am supposed to be walking and all I do is when I have to use the restroom.

Thank you for the info. :)

Walk as much as you can and then walk some more, It will really help and congratulations on the surgery !

@@Mandyann You may need to use an abdominal binder to help with those weird feelings...did you get one when you were discharged? They're just big stretch panels with velcro to hold them and our jiggly bellies in place for the first bit of time.

I had surgery on 11/14 and yes it was hard and painful to move, but 12 days post-op that has improved a lot and I believe it's because I walked and moved often. So try to walk as often as you can even if it's just a little at a time. Plus it's too keep your blood from clotting.

YOU CAN DO IT AND

Hello, I had surgery 11/21 and I definitely fell your pain and discomfort. My doctor strongly suggested to use the breathing tool they give you in the hospital to help strength your lungs. It's helped tremendously moving, breathing, sleeping and walking. I was so so so sore the first time I inhaled but it's gotten a lot easier. I have to hit the 2500 ML mark and hold in my breath for at least 2-3 sec. Also I'm still struggling laying flat so everyday since surgery I try to at least eliminate 1 pillow every night. I literally started with like 6 pillows lol. Stay strong and sending lots of love and energy your way

I've had the same pain too, mainly on my right side. And the surgeon told me that's where they pulled out the remaining part of my tummy. It takes the longest to heal bc the incision is larger than the rest of the other holes...best wishes for your recovery!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
