Biotine mouth spray. My mouth was so dry I thought I was going to die. The first day you can't even sip Water. Packed lots of stuff didn't use anything. Slept and walked. In my gown!!

Every place is different. Immediately post-surgery (once I was in my room), I was given ice chips and a sponge swab in a cup of ice Water. I was allowed to swab as frequently as I wanted/needed, just asked not to suck too much water out of the swab. Ice chips were available in whatever quantity wanted. I had the Biotene spray but never used it. Waste of $8.

I was given Water, ice chips and Isopure within an hour of getting to my room...I was expected to drink all afternoon and evening. Every program is different, as is every patient. I used my phone and my tablet a lot while I was admitted, I wasn't 'out of it' at all despite my morphine pump.

Literally the only things I used were chapstick & my cell phone [which also served as my kindle to read books]. I took so much crap with me, and didn't end up touching any of it but those two items. >_>

No, wait -- a hairbrush, too. Your hair will be a disaster from sleeping in the hospital beds...!

A long charger for your phone, hair brush and ties, toothbrush, slippers, a comfortable pillow and headphones. I had a roommate that wanted it dark and silent. I sleep with the TV on... Bring your patients

You are in and out so fast - surgery in the morning, home by the next afternoon. I did a ton of research and brought a whole bag of stuff - comfy clothes, my kindle, all kinds of toiletries - and didn't use any of it. After surgery, you are groggy from anesthesia and then you will have an IV painkiller, so reading comprehension scores are close to zero. I pretty much was either sleeping or walking the whole time. I didn't even wear my slippers, which is shocking because I'm a bit of a germophobe. I just walked around in the hospital socks. When things hurt, you don't care! haha

Chapstick was a lifesaver. I bought biotene for dry mouth but didnt use it, I used the little sponge the nurse gave me. You wont be thirsty because you are hydrated by the IV, but your mouth gets really dry.

I took more than I needed. I took my toiletries and used all of them. I was allowed a shower the day after surgery and I washed my hair. I wasn't up to even blow drying my hair or styling it (so unlike me :)). Also, on shower day, I was able to put on my own PJs. I also used my cell phone charger but I never got on my phone. Due to nausea, I wasn't up to getting on this site, FB or even check my emails. My husband used my phone to contact family and friends. I took make-up but didn't put it on. Mainly, I slept, walked and tried to get in fluids. I used chap stick 1X.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
