char3672 292 Posted November 25, 2016 Hi. I am (hopefully) having sleeve surgery in June, 2017. I have NEVER eaten well. I have ALWAYS lived on carbs. Pasta, pizza, breads, Cereal. I eat VERY little fruit and the only vegetable I like is corn. I guess that is how I got to this point. My question is, will I be able to be successful? I WANT/NEED this so bad. I will do my best, but I am so afraid I'm going to fail. Was anyone else as bad an eater as me and was able to change and be successful????? Dub 9,922 Posted November 25, 2016 Well......you have plenty of time to find out. You can go ahead an adopt the foods you'll be eating later on one for weight loss phases. See how you do....and go from there. For me...it was all about how bad I wanted to get the weight off. I had some back issues that motivated me in a big way to do whatever it took. Looking back on it....I'm grateful for the injury that provided the impetus to bolster my enthusiasm to lose, lose, lose. Take your normal meals now......drop off the sides and Desserts and focus on eating the Entrees (assuming these are Proteins & fats). Drop off the non-Fiber carbs and see where it leads you. Seek the input from your program's NUT. You'll likely start losing weight and feeling more in control of where you are....and getting to where you want to be. blizair09 3,250 Posted November 25, 2016 I agree with @@Dub completely. I lost almost 100 pounds in the six months leading up to my surgery. It was the best thing I ever did for myself. I was as prepared as I could possibly have been for the surgery and post-op life. My recovery has been practically seamless, and I have transitioned beautifully into my post-op routines and continued weight loss. Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App After surgery we have to eat Protein first with each meal. Do you dislike lean meats? eggs? cheese? Yogurt? Or do you just go for carbs because you like them better and fill up on them? For me I always liked healthy foods. I love seafood, chicken, etc. My problem is I never felt full. I would have a healthy protein/produce lunch or dinner and get up from the table still hungry. I felt like I needed a starch or two with the meal to feel satisfied. SO....I think the surgery is working for me (I had VSG on Halloween, so far I can hardly eat anything) because when I do start eating I should be satisfied with mostly Protein. At the moment I can't wait to eat tuna, salmon, eggs, cheese sticks, nuts, etc. If I would have tried to ditch the carbs before surgery I would have been starving. In fact, I tried it a million times and I WAS starving. Maybe try Weight Watchers or an Atkins diet now? What have you tried before? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I also have back problems that are getting worse, that is a big motivator for me as well as the fact that I am having a hard time functioning at work, which is also getting worse. char3672 292 Posted January 16, 2017 I had my first appt today with the surgeon and nutritionist. I think one of the things that has veen bothering me, is that right now, I eat until I am full...HOW am I going to know when to stop after surgery???? They both said that you need to stop when you are comfortably satisfied. I don't know what that feels like. I don't want to mess up. Finn634 26 Posted January 17, 2017 You will learn when you are full/ satisfied by eating slow, chewing food completely and waiting between bites. You will feel it..and if you go one bite too far, well, you will never want to make that mistake again. It is learning new habits..and an added surprise for me I am not feeling hungry.
