Day one of my pre-op diet....

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for my sleeve surgery dec.8th.. I'm now getting very nervous... I start my pre-op diet today. It's really hard.. I know it's all mental..

I'm allowed 5 shakes a day for two weeks.. I'm hoping this gets easier... I won't give up I know this is what I want. I know this is important. However I'm starving:(

@@elisa_rose you got this ! After day 3/4 it'll be easier. I know some friends of mine have told me that day 2-4 they've gotten headaches . My pre op diet was 7 days shakes , Water , broth and sugar free Jello . I've been reading more that all pre op diets vary depending on surgeon . I'm only 7 days post op and I'm still still on the same liquid diet as pre op and this time around it's easier. Don't worry you'll get through this !

I'm right there with you. Scheduled for the 7th and started my diet today. Todays is extremely emotionally stressful for me for personal reasons. I almost forgot I was on the diet today. LOL I drove to the hospital to visit my son thinking "Oh man, i'm so hungry! Oh there's a Burger King next to the hospital, I'll swing in and get a burger." So glad I remembered to throw a couple shakes in my purse before I left. Its going to be a long couple of weeks, but we'll get though it, just as those before us have, right?

I hope things get less stressful for you.. this is hard enough without added stress. We made it through the first day.. it has to get easier:)

@@elisa_rose not going to lie I still have that gas they pumped me up with in me but walking around helps . I went in early 11/18 and was in and out of sleeping due to pain meds and just being tried from the anesthesia . The next day is when they gave me Water , broth and Jello to finish from 7am -noon. Just like everyone says , sip sip sip . I'm still learning when I'm full from liquids . I did make thanksgiving dinner for my family and not once did I have a desire to eat it or taste . I always felt full from the liquids . I'm still sore but it's getting better and I'm moving around more . I do have to remember to take my Protein with me or water bottle when I'm out too . I'm learning new ways to make the most of this liquid stage for me . Lol but everyday gets better and better .

Variety in shake flavors will help keep you sane. I have 5 full size powder tubs and easily a dozen single servings around the house.

Add crystal light or mio to change it up! I had a strawberry shake made with crystal light lemonade last night and it was a nice change.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
