eso 48 Posted November 25, 2016 I'm almost 2 months post sleeve surgery and would like to start adding kale to smoothies again. If it's blended really well, do you think it would be ok or am I going to have problems? I haven't had any green leafy veg since before the surgery, so I've no idea if I'll have problems! Clarevoyant 347 Posted November 25, 2016 I think it would be fine. I was adding spinach to my smoothies at that point. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Bufflehead 6,358 Posted November 25, 2016 Do you have guidelines from your dietitian that say when you can add in leafy greens, or raw veggies? If not, can you call them for guidance? That would be your best bet.
Dub 9,922 Posted November 25, 2016 If I left it up to my NUT....the answer would be, I suspect, never. She drilled into my head not to "waste" space on salads and such. Much of what she said I feel was for folks in the beginning stages. My surgeon, however, begged to differ. His advice when I hit the 6 month mark was to continue with my hearty meats and to add in small amounts of raw vegetables. I can say that kale is one of my mainstays. I may not eat it daily....but at least 4 times each week. A chilled hard-boiled egg, some chicken or steak over some kale with a small amount of no/low carb dressing and a great meal is had. I've had zero problems digesting it. All is well. I've not tried the smoothie thing but am considering adding the gear needed to begin making them with a scoop of unflavored Protein powder thrown in. Ssze1109 163 Posted November 26, 2016 My Dr allowed me to put spinach in a blender with Greek yogurt, strawberries and bananas within 2 weeks of surgery. It's blended well so no problems. It has good nutrients that I think we need. But I would call your Dr office to confirm Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

QueenOfTheTamazons 634 Posted November 26, 2016 Why would you want to? I'm NOT kidding. I HATE kale. Unless its in zuppa toscanna or maybe made into a chip, I hate it too. rolosmom7 740 Posted November 26, 2016 I've never had kale that doesn't taste like bitter nastiness. When only so much can fit, it sure as $#!+ won't be kale. Any other greens though, this southern lady is down!
