Hi all,

Looking for a bit of moral support and guidance, I had a gastric sleeve on November 7th, all went well at first but seven days later I suffered internal bleeding in the new stomach due to incorrect medication. Thankfully I servived and am now back at home.

I have now progressed from the liquid diet and am now on the sloppy diet, I have suffered greatly from vomiting since starting this sloppy diet, is this part of the learning stage with the stomach and does it pass??? And will I ever be able to eat small solid food again??

So far I have lost nearly 39 LBS, so am really happy but just a little concerned about the above.

You might have guessed or not but I live over in the UK and we really don't have any support groups to help and guide you on your new journey.

Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

Adrian

Hi Adrian, I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles!! I'd check with your surgeon. You might not be ready for the next stage yet. Yes, you will be able to eat solids! I'm 6 weeks post and was able to enjoy a bit of our american Thanksgiving meal yesterday! It takes many weeks to get to the point where you are going to start feeling your new normal. I went through quite a bit of emotional struggle with this fearing I would never hit a new normal. But it will happen. I just think that maybe you're healing is delayed due to your issues and you might want to go back to the liquid. But of course check with your surgeon on all things like this.

I guess "sloppy" is the same as "soft foods" for us Americans? That was a tough phase for me to figure out but I seemed to live on puréed Beans for that week. I added cheese and melted it on the Beans. I also would purée a Soup and eat that. Try to stay away from anything too fibrous. I made the mistake of trying creamed spinach and thought I would die. Ricotta and marinara was quite yummy.

What foods have you tried that have made you vomit?

I am in the Uk and now 4 weeks today and have been having same problems. I can eat yogurt baby bell cheese Protein shakes etc but been sick when I tried soft food. I am hoping it is just a phase and maybe taking a bit slower but just so fed up with Soup or sweet stuff. Just of out to a big thanksgiving dinner as one of my mummy friends is American. I am taking some broth as don't want to be sick in public. I have met up for coffee today with a lady from this site and it was lovely to chat face to face. Xx

If it is too much for you pureed it more and sip it as if you would your liquids..you may have to go back so some liquid..I was sleeved on the 9th and when it was time to go from liquids to pureeds then soft I was nervous because of the digestion so I eased into it and still incorporated the liquids..warm/ room temperature worked best for me from the start and to be honest have not do really tried a cold nothing yet..be patience and don't force it.The throwing up could be you moving to fast and with the re healing is in progress now..good luck and congrats on the weight loss. :)

Hi all, thanks for the replies and your advice. Sloppy foods would be like baby foods, I think and hope that due to the complications that I had a week later everything will start to calm down again soon. I am starting to get increased energy levels, each day is a better day :-), due to see the surgeon at week 6 so I hope by then to at least enjoy a soft cheese and/or small bits of chicken.< /p>

Sad but reassured that others have experienced what I am going through, at least I know that there will be and end at some point, support over here is nonexistent you are given a number to call if you have any issues and then you get pushed out the door to get on with it.

God Bless you all and Happy Thanks Giving to you and your families, will keep you updated as a go through all the different phases and be very grateful for advise.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
