Is having a glass of milk considered one of your liquids for the day, or is it considered food?

I don't think my system is quite ready for coffee yet, but I am craving something hot to drink. So I thought I would heat up a cup of milk and put in a spoonful of my Peanut Butter powder. Is that considered a drink? Or food?

Thanks, I am in stage 3. Started moist/soft on Tuesday. I have handled things well as far as food goes, but still having trouble getting all of my 64 ounces in.

I was sleeved on 11/18 & still on full liquid diet. I was told to not start soft foods until my follow up on Monday. Anyway, my 2 cents is that warm milk with Protein powder is a good way to get liquids in. I was craving hot chocolate last night so I warmed skim milk & put in my chocolate Protein Powder. It wasn't the same, but close I guess.

Yes, The last few days for Breakfast, I have made my carnation instant milk hot so that it's a little bit more like hot chocolate and satisfies my craving for coffee in the morning. I had my postop appointment Tuesday, so he moved me from the full liquids to the soft moist stage I promise you when you finally get that first meal after being on liquids it will taste like the best meal you have ever had LOL

When I took nutrition in nursing school, they said consider milk food. I'm on the fence about that because you aren't getting it straight from the cow...

Yes, I had that problem when I first began this journey. You will find that a lot of the bariatric rules are different than normal nutrition rules. Especially the newer nutritional finds. For example, the latest consensus that sugar free products are bad for you, the margarine vs butter health debate and other food things like that.

But with this surgery, some of that changes..lol.

While I was on liquids, my nutritionist told me it was a meal. Once I made it to solid food, I am to treat it as liquid, even though it has Protein in it. Your best course of action would be to consult the nutritionist where you are having your surgery, if that is possible.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
