After 4 mths I finally have a surgery date- Jan 19th!!!!! :)

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone,

Just am so excited to say that I finally have a surgery date! January 19th will be my day :)

I have completed all of my pre- op tests.. which included:

1. abdominal ultrasound-found gallstones.. but will wait till after surgery to remove if necessary

2. echocardio-done

3. ekg-done

4. 2 nutritional consults-done

5. primary physical and letter-done

6. Overnight sleep study- done

7. Psych eval- done (Im not that crazy!! )

8. Bloodwork-done

9. Educational course and support group- Jan 4th and 11th

I waited for my insurance to switch to PPO ( thats why January) and they are saying so far they they will cover 70-90% of the cost which is good with me!

Im excited about this change, and so nervous. Im afraid of the pain with fills and surgery.. but most importantly afraid of failure. I want this tool to be what i needed to finally have a healthy body weight and keep it that way. Im so scared that ill fail like i did with being overweight my entire life.. Im sure you all know the feeling I am talking about.

I am glad I have found so much helpful information here with you all and the support will help me along the way!

Thank you all!

That's great news!! Study, study study, so you'll know what to expect. No surprises after surgery is so reassuring. Remember, you will NOT wake up skinny and you may not lose by leaps and bounds UNTIL you have restriction. Often people even gain a few lbs back before they actually get restriction. It's better to know these upfront so you don't suddenly get scared something is wrong afterwards. You'll do great! Congrats on getting a date!

Congrats to you! There really is not that much pain, at least it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The fills are no pain at all! Nothing! You have some time to read some posts and prepare!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
