If you are newly post op, the carbonation will totally irritate your newly operated on tummy. You have a line of staples going across your newly cut stomach. I would think it would burn like hell.

Follow your surgeons prescription diet. You're healing. Doing anything otherwise is risking your health with a leak.

Yes I agree with the others....stay away from the carbonation.....if you just like the taste of Sprite 0 .....then let it sit out and go flat before you drink it. Good luck to you!

The carbonation will not be your friend. I agree with Kmorri if it's just a taste thing- then let it sit out or stir it until it goes flat.. but there's no benefit to drinking it. You want to be getting in Water to stay hydrated, and Protein to keep healing that new stomach of yours. Sprite isn't going to give you anything that you need nutritionally- so why risk it?

Have you looked into whether you are permitted to use crystal light flavor packets or those Water flavor drops by Mio? I'm one day post- op and am allowed to use those once I can have sips of Water instead of just ice chips.

HMMM lets see I had an operation done to reduce the size my stomach, and the part that allows for stomach expansion has been removed. what part of drinking something carbonated sounds like a good idea if your stomach can not expand to allow for the carbonation gas.

When I was going through my preop stage, my nurse told me they once had a patient that hid a Pepsi in their bag that they brought with them to the hospital. She drank it when we she was post op and her stomach hemorrhage and she died. I was a hard core diet Pepsi fan. Not after I heard that story. Not worth it!!!

Yeah, I'd think sprite would be one of the worst things to put on your tummy. At least as far as drinks go. Try Water with lemon and lime if you want the flavors. Or lemon lime g2. I liked how that tasted right after surgery.

What harm would sprite zero due if I drank it in my liquid stage?

It has carbonation so my guess is that it would be painful or at the least make you very, very uncomfortable.

Carbonation is one thing I gave up completely pre-op and frankly, I don't miss it at all. There are alternatives.

I echo the others' sentiment about staying away from carbonated drinks. I do miss diet coke, but I know that it is a bad idea for me. (And I was so addicted to diet coke -- and caffeine in general -- for so long, it is nice to have that monkey off of my back!)

If you are a cheap bastar- I mean frugal man like me... I mix 32oz of lemon-lime Powerade Zero 50/50 with water and add a crystal light single serving pack of lemonade. That is freaking awesome!

With my surgeon, carbonated beverages are never allowed again. I have 3 rows of staples and a very small stomach. No room for fizz.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
