mamalisa268 58 Posted November 23, 2016 Hello all... Tomorrow morning I will be having my sleeve done. There are so many crazy emotions, happy and sad. Like I am pregnant all over again. I am nervous but honestly what did you all feel that first day. I am not worried about surgery, worried about the after. I have had 4 c-sections and a stomach infection after the last one baby. I remembered how they all felt. Just curious what should I expect tomorrow?? And btw accepting all prayers. hw - 444 ~ surgery date - 11/23 ~ cw -
ShelterDog64 2,364 Posted November 23, 2016 @@mamalisa268 You've had other surgeries, so the pre-op stuff won't be any surprise to you...the standard IV, etc. I woke up in the PACU with horrible sub-sternal pain, which the staff very quickly dealt with and I woke up an hour later being transported to my room on the surgery inpatient floor. I was on a morphine PCA pump (you push the button for a dose of pain med) and was getting anti-emetics for nausea through my IV as well. I dozed off and on for another hour or so, then got up to the bathroom (no catheter!) and went for a walk around the ward. I did this on and off for the rest of the day, took a shower and had some Isopure and Water. Didn't sleep much overnight, but felt much better the next day. I would have been discharged that day but my potassium level wouldn't stay up so I was getting it by IV and kept blowing my IV sites, so was getting a bit dehydrated too. They kept me until around noon the next day, I was up walking every hour for at least 20 mins, was able to keep liquids in my stomach and felt pretty good. All in all, it was really easy and relatively pain-free. The walking helps a LOT with the gas pains from the surgery, do as much as you can! Good luck and be sure to check back in when you're feeling up to it!

Ashlee060487 10 Posted November 23, 2016 @@mamalisa268 it is so normal to feel what you are feeling! I had my sleeve 2 weeks ago yesterday and I'm down 17 lbs! I was SO nervous the night before. But I kept reminding myself why I chose to have this done. For a new life. No one came to you and offered you the surgery. YOU wanted it. I wanted it. This is just the beginning and it is going to go over so well. You will do fine. I'll keep you in my prayers! ahappycamper 81 Posted November 23, 2016 Hi there I just had my surgery yesterday, the 22nd. When I first woke up, I was in a lot of pain in my stomach from the incisions and the gas, but the majority of it was taken care of within an hour. Unfortunately, the gas pain in my stomach is still frequent and painful, even if I am keeping up with my pain pump. I've been burping non-stop, but it helps. Yesterday my incisions and actual stomach hurt less because of the anesthesia and shock, but this morning I am hurting more. My nurse told me to expect this, so I was prepared -- it just stinks. Though, overall, the pain is not the worst pain I've ever felt in my life. It's just very unusual, consistent, and uncomfortable. I had to wait a while before I could walk as all the nurses and staff were busy, and my hospital considers all patients who had anesthesia to be high fall risk patients and can only walk when with one of the staff until determined otherwise. I've only been permitted to have ice chips until now and will be moving to Water, broth, and a bariatric shake today. No idea how I'm going to get that down, but I'll figure it out! I've really felt quite well, and think this has been a lot easier thus far than I had expected since I'd never had any surgeries before. You'll do great, but I totally relate to the nerves! I was really nervous before but it was mostly for naught! Best of luck to you! Let us know how it goes for you! Sent From BariatricPal App
WGH3IWDT 93 Posted November 23, 2016 I HAD 2 C-SECTIONS AND THE PAIN FROM THIS SURGERY WAS NOT AS BAD AS THE PAIN IN YOUR ABDOMEN FROM THE C- SECTIONS. THIS AREA FOR THIS SURGERY IS HIGHER UP. Nevertheless, COME WHAT MAY I STAND IN AGREEMENT FOR A SUCCESSFUL SURGERY AND SPEEDY RECOVERY ACCORDING TO GOD'S PERFECT AND HOLY WILL. IN JESUS NAME I PRAY Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App
mamalisa268 58 Posted November 24, 2016 Had surgery yesterday, went well. The pain i really wasn't prepared for, that pressure but after awhile it did go away and this morning well 3 in the morning,i can't sleep and have no pain. They don't give you narcotics here they feel that slows down healing. So I have been getting just Tylenol. Today should be swallow check and then go home. Thank u for the prayers and kind words to help me out. How did u all feel in the days after, like day 3, 4, 5?? Curious and planning my week, I have to come for follow up next Thursday wondering if i be able to drive myself or find someone to drive me. hw - 444 ~ surgery date - 11/23 ~ cw -

I'm 6 days out from mine & there were a couple days I was like, "what the hell did I do?" There have been days when I've questioned my whole life, but it all gets better. I'll keep you in prayers & look forward to following your journey. Sent from my LG-H918 using the BariatricPal App
