Week 4 Post Op: Thanksgiving Food

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm on week 4 Post Op pureed foods and I'm nervous about Thanksgiving dinner. I'm finding myself upset that I won't be able to enjoy the usual foods I eat on Thanksgiving. Thankfully, I don't have to host this year but my mother is cooking and I love her food. It's going to be a challenge since I'm not able to eat what everyone else will be eating. I'm going to at least get some turkey with gravy and bring mash potatoes I will make only for myself. I think it would be easier if I could do soft foods but that's not until week 5 post op.

Anyone have any other pureed food suggestions on what else I could eat for Thanksgiving dinner? Anyone else having to deal with the same challenge of eating pureed on Thanksgiving?

I couldn't have turkey or mashed potatos until the soft food stage. Take and enjoy a favorite cream Soup. It is just one meal on one day. You have a tiny bit of room. You could even have a Protein Shake right before you go to help with temptations.

I plan on pureeing 2 oz of turkey with chicken broth. I actually did it with chicken tonight and it was delicious. I tolerated it well and it was as smooth as yogurt. I won't do mashed potatoes because they are not on my plan. I may try and puree a little bit of green bean casserole since I can have the green Beans and cream Soup.

That sounds really good! Happy Thanksgiving

Yeah, I'd think a slice of turkey pureed with some gravy would be good if you're looking to get the Thanksgiving feel. I had mashed potatoes on puree, so if your plan calls for that, they'd be a good couple bites. Enjoy your Holiday regardless - it's really about spending time with family and friends. ☺

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
