olamae 16 Posted November 22, 2016 Just curious why one would chose one over the other? Other than talking to your surgeon and hearing their advice? I have not yet started the process but want to have what I want in mind when I go!
MowryRocks 679 Posted November 22, 2016 I personally chose the sleeve because I know several people who had full bypass and had many many health issues afterwards. The sleeve is a restrictive process that does exactly that, it restricts the amount that you can eat at any time, whereas the bypass is both restrictive and malabsorbtive so it not only restricts, but stops your body from absorbing the calories, nutrients and Protein. It really is a personal decision based on your needs and where you are comfortable. I spent many years say absolutely not to WLS, but that was before the sleeve was available, once I researched my brain to death about it, I changed my mind about WLS. Dub 9,922 Posted November 22, 2016 For me it was very simple......I needed the ability to take Advil or other nsaids. Surgeon was very educational and helped me decide to sleeve. Glad I did. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted November 23, 2016 @@olamae I looked at the long term results and decided maybe losing an extra 20 pounds with bypass was not worth having my intestines touched. The sleeve results are so close to RNY, I didn't think it was worth the malabsorption. I still get to be a normal person with just a smaller capacity.
