Yeah, people should do their own research, and ask lots of questions, but the reality is a lot of people won't. It sounds very noble to say that the doctor should refuse to operate on those who are not informed, but doctors are people just like the rest of us, and this is a for profit operation on a couple of levels. If the doc does his thing and you get fat again, it isn't his problem, and he has been paid. But I am completely squwicked out by anything remotely related to blood and guts. Even if they are relatively clean looking procedures. There is a reason that in a family where three of my siblings are nurses - I chose to teach pre k.
