I've recently had surgery 11/15 and I'm not following my book. I'm having trouble eating the broth and ice pops. I kind of eat a little of regular food here and there but I make sure I watch the amount and how well I chew my food. Well now I'm scared that I can have a leak from eating to soon but I always got this empty sensation in my stomach like I'm hungry . But I know I can only eat a bite of something.

Try sf Jello instead of real food. It's kind of like eating more solid foods but much much safer. I had my surgery on the 15th too and sf Jello is on the list of things I can consume on the phase 1 diet. I sometimes have hunger too and the jello does the trick.

No one is available at your surgeons office? That's crazy. Call them first thing tomorrow.

Did you have a swallow test to make sure there were no Lee's before you left the hospital?

I had a hard very time swallowing cold foods the first week. My surgeon suggest eating g everything room temperature for a few days. At first I didn't want hot food at all so I don't know if it would have felt like it was stuck.

Can you have yogurt? It's easy to digest. Get one with live cultures (robotics) I try to include some fat in my diet so I use 2%.

Well cooked preed carrots, cauliflower and butternut squash are low in calories andeasy to swallow.

My favorite is carrot coconut curry Soup.

Individual serving:

2 oz cooked carrots, a spoon of dehydrated veggie mix from the grocery store bulk bins (soaked in warm Water 1TBS of coconut milk, some yellow curry and pepper flakes pureed together with enough chicken broth to make Soup (make thicker for puree later).

To get in enough Protein right before eating I mix 1/2 scoop of unflavored Protein powder with about 2 oz warm cashew milk and slowly stir it into the already heated soup. This adds 10-11 grams per serving. I make big batches of this and carrots mushroom and freeze 4-5 oz servings into small mason jars.

Note: the soup can't be too hot or the Protein will clump

I think they did mine when i was sleep. I guess I'm kind of weird bc I have no problem swallowing I take little sip and breathe through my nose to exhale any extra air and I'm fine. I haven't tried yogurt bc I couldn't stomach it before surgery. But I will try that and see how it work now.

They can't do a swallow test when you're asleep. Hope you get in touch with your dr. Good luck!

I never had a swallow test. Surgeon said it was not necessary with the way they did mine. I have had no problems, and my surgeon is very well respected and requested in our area. Procedures are evolving. Ask your surgeon for details about how yours was done before you get scared about what other patients have reported should have happened.

My understanding is that if there is no pain there is no leak. Leaking of food into the body cavity is very dangerous and has consequences that are not easy to miss.

It is also very important to stick with the recommended diet. It helps you heal, and it also helps form completely new habits for your new life. That is vital for long-term success.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
