I don't have hunger, I have gnawing empty sensation that starts at my esophagus

Recommended Posts

I really hate this feeling and I'm hoping it goes away. When I hit at about 2 hours after having eaten I begin to get this empty, gnawing sensation - I don't know how else to describe it - that starts at my esophagus. It's kind of like an acidy stomach but it's about an empty stomach. I can drink a bunch of Water to temporarily pause the sensation but then once that works through it's back. The only way to stop it is to eat.

Anyone else have something like this? Does it go away ? I'm only at 7 weeks now so expect things to change I just really want/need to hear this goes away. I can't imagine living the rest of my life like this.

yes, I had this same feeling when I had the Lap-Band. Turned out to be reflux, excess stomach acid. I started taking prescription dexalant.

Really?? OMG that would be great if that what this is!!! I can't take omeprazole or anything like it yet because it's an extended release tablet and I have to crush them meaning it all hits my stomach at once. I'm praying I can start in a few weeks.

Are you sure about that? Most sleevers get started on a PPI in the hospital, no waiting. You could also inquire about a liquid PPI such as (I think) liquid protonix. Reach out to your bariatric team for help right away, don't wait around for it to go away. Good luck!

OMG that is the same exact feeling I have had since day one of my surgery ... I was sleeved on nov 11 2016 ... some days the liquids go down well some days not very erratic... I think our whole digestion system is in shock and is just trying to figure things out .. I am sure it will all work out ... I pray it will ... good luck
