You just have to keep at it. Try smaller sips and different temperatures. The swelling will begin to subside and it gets better.

This is normal. I barely got in enough liquids the first 2 weeks after my surgery. It hurt to drink anything because my stomach was so swollen, and so is yours. This is normal. I probably only drank about a cup or 2 for the first few days because it was so hard to drink anything. Just keep trying and take very small, slow sips. :)

Just posted this in another thread:

Try hot Water, cold Water, water with ice, water with sugar free flavouring drops, caffine free tea and coffee, slurpies with sugar free flavouring drops, make your Protein drink (if powder) with 20 oz water, broth.. try lots of different way to get fluids in.

You have to get the fluids in or you will end up dehydrated and you don't want that !

P.s leave the tea and coffee as a last resort and sip sip sip until you can't sip anymore :)

Congratulations on the surgery !

Thank you for this because that's my same problem but my doctor told me it's all in my head and I'm just scared to vomit

I was also sleeved on the 18th and for the first couple of days had a lot of pressure if I tried to drink, regardless of how small the sip, how careful I was not to swallow air, or the type/temp of the liquid. I've been much more successful today. Something that helped (or it may just been that more time had passed) was warm Decaf peppermint tea. I am only now trying something thicker (working on my first Protein shake as I type this).

Good luck!

Yes i talked to dr and he said as long as you keep trying, you will get to your goal of 80oz, right now I've had 20 oz, but if by the end of the week i don't get 80 oz down i wont be able to start puree foods, but every time i sip i get like a gas pain between my chest, and i feel the need to burp.

80 oz?! Why that much? My doctor only told me to get in 64 oz.

Just keep at it. That is pretty normal. I definitely remember that struggle. You are right, it is super important to not get dehydrated, but you have to keep trying. Don't try to drink a lot at once though, you are right, that will hurt. I drank from the little 1 oz medicine cups and just keep going it againa and again and again. You won't get the full 80 in for a while, but you have to get enough to keep you healthy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
