MegCal93 4 Posted November 21, 2016 Hey guys! So I will be sleeved December 26th. Super excited! Currently Im 5'6 289 and in a size 24 jean. I have two weddings that I'm in this coming fall. First two week in September. I need to order my bridesmaid dresses soon. Just have no idea what a "safe size" to order is. I'll be 9 months out. Any info appreciated. ShelterDog64 2,364 Posted November 21, 2016 It's almost impossible to know what size you'd be, even if you're at your goal in 9 months. You were in a 24 at just 20 lbs heavier and one inch shorter than me at my highest and I wore a 16. I'm down to a 10 or 12 after 70 lbs of weight loss, with my jean size being almost always a 10 and my tops being the 12. Who knows where you'll lose it from the fastest, and in my experience you can't compare it to how you've lost weight in the past. We all carry our weight differently and losing it this time around is completely different than anything I've ever experience. Can you afford to have the dress shop order more than one size and hold them for you so that you can come in for a fitting closer to the wedding and let them return the one(s) that won't work? At any rate, you're going to look and feel so fabulous for those weddings, how exciting!!
MegCal93 4 Posted November 21, 2016 Thanks for your input! I think I'll just order a size or two down and if it needs to be taken in we can absolutely do that Meg Cal
Aggiemae 739 Posted November 21, 2016 Can you get two and return the one you don't wear? Or put your fitting off till August?
MegCal93 4 Posted November 21, 2016 I have to order from davids bridal :-/ Meg Cal
gustavio 439 Posted November 21, 2016 (edited) I ordered all my bridesmaid dresses from davids bridal 6 months in advance. However, I had a pregnant one so we waited till 4 weeks before wedding and it came in plenty of time and even had time for alterations. Do not order too early. It may prove to be a waste of money. U never know where and how fast u will lose the weight. I'm not even 3 months out and went from a tight size 20 to a loose size 16 pants already. You just never know what will happen month to month Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Edited November 21, 2016 by gustavio
rolosmom7 740 Posted November 21, 2016 They can adjust 3 sizes smaller and retain the integrity of the dress. Also, most bridal runs super small. Just some things to keep in mind. I'm sure you can have it altered and will look great!
Mindy78 372 Posted November 21, 2016 I'm getting married in February. 1bridesmaid just ordered her dress about 2 weeks ago for the same reason from David's bridal. If it's not a style they are planning to discontinue. I'm 7 weeks out today and already went from a 24 to a 16 in some things. Down 23 lbs since surgery Sent from my 5054N using the BariatricPal App
wilson06 31 Posted November 21, 2016 I have the same issue. My BFF wedding is June 3rd and I've found the Dress that I like and she likes so I'm going to order it by Jan but in a 18. I'm in a 22/24 so I will wait til April to do any alterations at that time. I would ask David Bridal to mke sure the dress will be in that size and color and get it as soon as you can and do alterations in your current size or go down a dress size. Just something to think about. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
Vinasu 621 Posted November 21, 2016 I was a size 22 in May, and I'm a size 10 now. If you're really working the program, there could be a huge difference by September--more than can be altered. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App
theantichick 2,204 Posted November 21, 2016 Wait as long as you can to order, order so it'll be a little big, and either find a really good tailor and have an appointment for a week or two before or see if David's can guarantee you last-minute tailoring. I made the mistake of ordering too small once because I was on a diet and losing weight, and by the time the wedding came around there wasn't a Spanx strong enough to make that dress comfortable or hang right. We counted ourselves lucky that it would still zip.
Omieliz 213 Posted November 24, 2016 (edited) I had a very short engagement and ordered my bridesmaids dresses three months before the wedding, from David's Bridal. They were all fitted and altered. I think they tell such long times so there's no rush. If it's too big and they can't alter it for you in a timely fashion, I'm sure you could find someone else to alter it for you. It seems silly to have to buy something so far in advance! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Edited November 24, 2016 by Omieliz
