Left the hospital 14 pounds higher

Recommended Posts

It's normal, wait a week before you weigh again.

I know it's dissapointing because I'm in hospital and up 11 pounds due to IV fluids (and maybe the 100mg of prednisone).

I know I'm not gaining fat on less than 600 calories a day but it's still frustrating.

I keep reminding myself that I didn't gain this 100 pounds in a week!

I was sleeved the 18th and I weighed much heavier too. The nurses and dr said it's from the IV fluids , meds and gas they pump you up with . I knew it had to be that because my pj pants always for great then when I changed into those they were so tight around the waist I couldn't keep them on . I was told to keep moving around which helps release air too .

Thanks all !! You rock!!

My post op appointment is tomorrow (Tuesday).

Not sure but I THINK I'll be allowed to advance to full liquids.

Another question for you all.... a horrible awful pain about 2-3 inches to the right of the belly button. Not an incision and not the place of the drain. Anyone else have that pain in that place ?

That's were they pulled out your stomach. Mine hurt so much I couldn't roll over or sit up in bed! I used a tight shaper tank top to put pressure on my abdomen and it helped immediately. I wore it for a little over a week. Mine was from "GENIE" I already had it. Spanks makes them and they sell larger sizes at lane Bryant. If you still have the drain just tuck it under the tank top.

Yes I had pain on right side too. Had to hold my right side when moving or walking. I bought an abdominal binder at Walmart in the sports section plus size for $5.00. It helped! I am 13 days out and I can move so much better. No pain with walking anymore.

The NP seemed very concerned about this pain. I have another appointment Tuesday. They are going to want a CT scan

As far as the fluids. Down 19 since Sunday. Fortunately the hospital fluids came off

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
