Regardless of what type of weightloss surgery, you should plan to use a back up method of birth control for a while. Fat cells store estrogen, as you lose fat all that estrogen gets released making oral contraceptives (which are hormone based) less effective.

Hey! I'm 25, almost 3 years post-op. Still take A low dose estrogen BC. You'll be fine.

DONT TAKE BC pills. Please. My surgery team warned me about this for a long time. Your body will not absorb the hormones after the DS. I have an IUD instead.

Hey, sorry you still feel bad. I've been on BC like 2 years before I had my surgery. I suffered from really bad PMS. The meds that my gyno has me on is good. It does take your body about 3 months to become "regular" you also have to remember that you're ingesting a lot less calories so that could be what's giving you that lethargic feeling. Hope your feel better soon!

I have had period for about six months with only two to three days in between seven to twelve day periods. Calling Tom. My bariatrics surgeon said to go on higher estrogen BC pills. What are others on? Having nexplanon removed can't take this anymore :(

I have an IUD, this July will be a year. The first year there's a lot of spotting and random cramps. I haven't had a true "period" since last July.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
