So THIS is why my back hurts!

Recommended Posts

As it turns out I'm hunchback! I always knew that I had a lot of weight on my back but I always assumed that it was fat. According to my wife I have very little fat left on my back. Looking at this side view picture of myself I now understand why my upper back is hurting all of the time. The proper name is kyphosis. There are a few different exercises that I can do to help from what I can find online. I'd be surprised if they help much and if they don't apparently I need to go find a bell to ring!

Omg! You are freaking awesome. I am sorry for the whole medical condition, but you are really putting a hilarious spin on it. I don't really know how to respond, I just thought I'd share that you and your little HoND cartoon made me actually lol. Thanks again for smile and good luck with finding some pain relief.

We all have choices. In this case it's cry, whine or laugh. I will laugh and perhaps have a sip of whine.

Have you been to a doctor about it? They can usually prescribe some physical therapy that may really help. I would also recommend some good, therapeutic massage therapy, like trigger point or myofascial therapy.

What happened to my post?

The exercises will help with the pain Does your WLS have in house PT. If yes, make an appointment. Othotic inserts in your shoes will reduce pain and might improve your posture.

Check out posture belts, but the good ones are pricy so discuss this with PT before investing.

Not yet. I have a friend who was a corpsman in the Navy and he saw me and mentioned it. I did a bit of internet diagnosis and went, dang. I had mentioned that somehow my man boobs and my Buddha belly were the same size.

When I was youn nurse I used to watch the older nurses hunch and limp and decided to mitigate the possible damage before it happened. I wore a shoulder brace all the years I worked doing in patient care.

Try one like this:

https://www.opensky.com/1smartdeal/product/details-about-posture-corrector-magnetic-back-shoulder-brace-belt-adjustable-therapy-straight?max_discount=1

You can buy one on line but go y them on at a medical supply store first. Get the one with the most adjustments.

If your insurance doesn't cover PT self pay is about $95.00. here. You will only need 1 or 2 visits to get a posture/gait treatment plan.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
