Scared newbie

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have just found this site, and have wanted to have this op done for quite a while. I am about 245lbs, 30 years old and have three little boys aged 5,4 and 2.

I have now booked an initial consultation, and could be having the op on 14th November. The problem is, that having read lots of people's posts, I am scared that I haven't the willpower to survive until the first fill. My regime would be 2 wks on Optifast before op, 4 wks on fluids post op, then 4 wks on mushies, and my doctor's policy is no fills before 3 months post-op.

If I had willpower I would not be at the stage where I am going to have this op. And as my mum is funding it I am already feeling enormous pressure to NOT FAIL.

How will I manage on so little food for 3 months if my band isn't restricting my appetite?

PLease some-one talk to me. :help:

Thanks

Kathryn

im self paying my surgery and as soon as i made the desision to go for it, i have been telling myself constantly that i can do this,,mentally prepare ur self,, i tell myself im gonna struggle but it will pay off, u must always think positive!

If this is something u really want to do, u will succeed!

All the best!

Kathryn, I have not had a fill yet since I am less than 2 weeks since surgery, but just having the band in place has been keeping me from being hungry. I can barely manage to get the Protein Shakes twice a day down and just 4 oz of Soup and I am FULL. Congrats on your choice. Keep reading, there is a ton of information on this site....Dave

i waited about 3 months to get my first fill. i had to go to mexico. i wasnt in any hurry. i wanted to heal first. i was totally fine. i think the band alone is good restriction even without the fill. i would not worry. you will have to trust the process. it works best i think, when i dont rush it. good luck.

Hi Kathryn!

You would be surprised at the amount of will power you have! The band is designed to work best with Fluid in in (a fill) but some people find that just the band alone provides enough restriction to keep them from overdoing it.

Best of luck.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
